February Vacation Recommendations

DW and I are thinking of taking DS9 and DS7 on a trip during February vacation week. We were at WDW in May and had a great time but DW does not want to deal with the crowds if we went again in Feb.

We were thinking of cruises or Club Med/Beaches resorts, just can't decide. Our boys are very active and we want to keep them busy while having some relaxation on our own. Any suggestions? Jay

How about Costa Rica? It's very inexpensive to fly to (at least through early December), there's plenty to do & it's a totally new experience. They are kind to Americans also :teeth: I recommend Costa Rica as it's closer to the East Coast (4 hours from DC) than Hawaii (which is where we've tended to go in February)

This was great. Beaches at Turks and Caicos. I have recommended it several times.

If you haven't cruised before, I would definately recommend a cruise. I think you and your entire family would enjoy one of the Voyager Class ships of Royal Caribbean or the Mellinium Class ships of Celebrity. You don't have to take your children on a Disney Cruise to have a good time. Other cruise lines have great children's programs and are much more affordable. I would book early. $250 pp will hold your cabin(s) and is completely refundable 60 days prior to sailing. You can also lock in a better price now. If the price drops, you will usually get a refund. Clarify that with the TA.

My doctor takes his kids to Beaches every year. They always have a ball! I'm not sure which one, though.

My BIL's family went to the Ritz Carlton in Jamica last month. They really loved it. They have an all-inclusive family plan so you never have to leave the resort. It also has a kids club.

HAWAII!!! We were there last February and loved it! Watching the whales in Maui was fabulous. The Four Seasons has a great free childrens program. They will have a blast and you can have free time when you want.

I agree that Hawaii is the best however with traveling time from the east coast and the expense of the airfare, a week isn't long enough. When we go to Hawaii, we stay at least two weeks.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. We are seriously considering a cruise. We have had several recommendations for them and they sound interesting. Are the Voyager Class on Royal Caribbean their larger newer ships? Someone recommended them to us and they sounded wonderful.

Hawaii would be wonderful but I doubt we could afford it and the trip to get there would be a bit too much for our DS8 and DS7. Definitely will consider it when the boys are older.

I have never heard of anyone going to Costa Rica. What is there to do there? Sounds exotic. Anyway, thanks again everyone. Jay

Costa Rica is like Hawaii only closer, they have a volcano, rainforests, tremendous wildlife, and just fantastic beaches... Airfares from our area can be in the 250 range... We usually go to Hawaii, but lately with all the press it's gotten, I'd jump at the chance to go to Costa Rica.... Do a little research on it!!!

Thanks Chris - I will look into it. DW and I went to AAA today and looked into cruises. They look great but are a bit pricey. They are about the same as it would cost for WDW. Anyway, we are still trying to decide. Maybe I will look into Costa Rica. At least it isn't somewhere everyone else has been. Thanks Jay

Anybody know of a good resort in Costa Rica? I went on the web a little bit last night but did not find anything interesting. Need to do a little more investigation, but suggestions would help. Jay

I would opt for a cruise with young kids. Remember also the Caribbean can be rainy. A beach vacation with kids for a week can be a major wash out with a few rainy days. A ship moves from port to port and it would be unusual to have rain everyday....although it could happen.
