Just wondering for a Disneyland noobie what would be your essential three if you had to cut out Fantasmic I heard its closing so sad :(

Also I'm beyond excited to go next to the castle that started it all ;)!

Hyperspace Mountain will be your top priority, with Indy a close second.

No need to limit yourself to 3 though. You're thinking like a WDW guest now.

Keep in mind if the Matterhorn line is long, they do have single rider.

You can also hop quite easily between parks. We generally don't run from one park to the other, but people do, and it's nothing like WDW in that regard.

So watch the app for wait times and FP return times and decide on the ground each day what you want to FP.

RSR obviously is the top FP draw at DCA.

Thanks so much but you get more than three????

Yes. It's one of the reasons many people liked legacy more than FP+. Not only can you get more than 3, but you can get all 3 for the same attraction if they are available.

Pull one for Hyperspace Mountain first thing, then ride standby. If you are there at rope drop, your return time will be fairly early. You can pull your next FP the minute your return window opens, or 2 hours after pulling it, whichever is earlier. Worst case scenario you can pull one every 2 hours. Start with the attractions most likely to have later return times or most likely to run out soonest.

Indiana Jones

Splash Mountain

In my opinion, that is! They are also available for Star Tours, Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters, Big Thunder Mountain and I believe Roger Rabbit still. (If they are, skip the Roger Rabbit stand by line which can be claustrophobic and loud!)

In DCA, my favorite FP'S are Radiator Springs Racers, Tower of Terror, and Soarin. There are also fp's available for Grizzly River Run, California Screamin, and Goofy's Flight School.

If you get a FP for World of Color, it will not affect your ability to collect other FP'S for rides or make you wait 2 hours, so you don't need to pull it strategically, just whenever you're in that area. (FYI, the FP'S for WOC are distributed at the machines used for Grizzly River Run.)

Have fun planning!

And just fyi show FPs like Fantasmic and World of Color are not linked to the system. This means you can pull a fastpass for World of Color right after pulling a FP for Radiator springs Racers if you you'll be heading into DCA. I agree with the FP priority above, Space, Indy then Big Thunder (which was recently updated and quite better than WDW IMHO).

Are the Buzz FPs still disconnected? Because, if they are, pulling them does not affect your ability to pull any others.

Yup! Buzz is a bonus FP too! We got to cut in front of anyone who was walking in at the time, haha, but in busier times the FP line likely goes further inside the building before merging with the stand by line!

I just wanted to add that Buzz FPs are distributed at the same area where Star Tours FPs are. All the way over to the end. The first few days we were there I never saw the Buzz FP area but the last day I grabbed them after getting Star Tours FPs. We ended up riding while our friends got stuck on HSM. And then gave our last 3 FPs away to a family of 3.
:tinker:

Thunder is WAY better at dlr! We were shocked at the difference. DH won't ride it at WDW with me because it is too rough. We both loved it at DLR though. It was so smooth! It WA amazing how different the experience was.

How long is Hyperspace Mountain going to be a thing? I really don't care about that, so I hope it's back to normal Space Mountain by late February when we go.

At this point at least through May. They announced an end date in late May but then later removed it.

We were surveyed when we got off the ride about our thoughts on it. My hunch is if they get enough good feedback it could stay longer.

We LOVED it Hyperspace Mountain!

Oh, gross! I'm just not into Star Wars; different strokes for different folks and all.

Can you tell me what's different exactly? I'd like to warn my husband before we go, lol.

Well, I like Star Wars but I don't think it's over the top. So some stand out differences are Star Wars theme music at the beginning and end, it feels like you are going into Hyperspace in the initial climb, and it's like you are in a battle. There are some projections of Star Wars battleships and what appears to be lasers going around you, so it feels like you are in a battle. We loved that. On regular Space Mountain my husband and I always wore our sunglasses during the ride because we liked to make it darker for more thrill, lol. It definitely feels more exciting this way - more of a story to the ride. There's youtube videos out there if you really want to check it out before you go. I didn't want any spoilers before we went!

Thank you, it sounds like it might be okay, but I love regular old SM so much (and the music!) and I feel sort of inundated by SW right now since the movie is coming out on Friday. Thank you for your response!

I think that Hyperspace Mountain is still enjoyable even for someone who is not a Star Wars fan. The part that is very obviously Star Wars is the music, but otherwise the space battle elements that have been added could really be any generic space battle. Cool lasers, ships, etc. If you are familiar with the models of Star Wars ships you will recognize them, but if you aren't then they just seem like cool spaceships. I thought it was a neat addition because it gave the ride a story. I never thought the original SM was lacking, I love it, but having a story added was fun too!

If it makes you feel better I'm sort of in the same boat. Not much into Star Wars (tried to get into never really could) and a fan of original Space Mountain. I still thought it was a fun ride with the revamp.

But I wouldn't mind if they went back to old Space Mountain eventually.

Yes and no...the number of FPs you can hold during the day depends on when the time windows are and when you pulled the FP. As mentioned, DLR still uses the legacy FP system, so you have to go to the FP distribution machines to get the FPs (they do not have a centralized or online method to obtain FPs at this point). When you pull a FP, you can get another FP two hours later or when the time window opens up, whichever comes first. So, if you pull a RSR FP at 8:00 am and the return time is at 9:00 am, you'll be able to get your next FP at 9:00 am (when the time window opens). If the return time is at 1:00 pm, you'll be able to get your next FP at 10:00 am (two hours after you pulled the RSR FP). A few other things worth noting:
  • The two parks are disconnected. So you can get a FP in DCA and then immediately head over and get a FP in DL.
  • The FPs for the shows (WoC, F! (although that won't be presented when you're there), Royal Theater) and character meet & greets (if A&E is still using it at that time) are disconnected.
  • Buzz Lightyear's FP is disconnected from the rest of the DL FP system.
  • As long as your ticket has been used to enter one park, you can use it to obtain FPs in either park. So if your family goes into DL in the morning, you can send a runner over to DCA to get a FP (or vice-a-versa).
I've very rarely had three FPs in hand, usually it's one with a late return time and then others with a sooner return time (e.g., a Space Mtn FP for late evening and then something like BTMRR for an hour or so later). On the other hand, on some days, it's pretty easy to use more than three FPs in a single day. It all depends on crowds and how long FP distribution lasts.

Because F! was a disconnected FP, getting one didn't impact your ability to get any other FP in the park (unlike at WDW). That being said, these are my three top FPs in each park:
  • DL: Hyperspace Mountain, Indy Jones, Haunted Mansion
  • DCA: RSR, Soarin', ToT
How long is Hyperspace Mountain going to be a thing?
As it was mentioned, for a brief period, the Disneyland.com website listed an end date of May 26, but that was removed pretty quickly. My guess is they'll try to keep Hyperspace Mountain for as long as possible because it seems really popular. At a minimum, I think it'll be here through Spring Break season. If it's popular enough, I wouldn't be surprised if it lasts through the summer (or until they want to put in the Ghost Galaxy overlay for HalloweenTime).

Thunder is WAY better at dlr! We were shocked at the doffer encephalitis.

I can usually figure out autocorrects but this awesome one (not that encephalitis is awesome) has me stumped. :)

DH and DS are going to pass out from joy. I haven't told them about it for fear that it would end before our Jan trip. Which would be silly bc we are going there for the SW runs. But Disney doesn't always make decisions that I feel make sense. I still might not tell them. ;)
