SELF CARE SUNDAY

February 1st and 2nd mark Imbolc, the halfway point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox... it is considered to be the start of spring, the return of the light.

Let's use the traditional Imbolc traditions as our self-care today, they include:

Lighting candles to honor the growing light of spring

Decorating altars with symbols of new beginnings and purity, like white candles, spring flowers, and seeds.

Performing cleansing rituals, such as a physical and spiritual clean-up of our home and taking a ritual bath.

This is DD's first weekend home without her ex, and after a day of seeing various friends yesterday, she is relaxing at home with me today. Other than the usual Sunday activities, spending quiet time with my daughter is my self-care. We are getting about 3 inches of snow tonight...hoping for a delay tomorrow since it probably won't be enough for a snow day.

Happy Groundhog Day! I always do Groundhog Day activities with the kids, but since we won't be in school on the actual day, I will go directly into Black History Month. We did a unit on MLK already. In addition to learning about many other accomplished black people, I plan on mainly focusing on Mae Jamison who received a scholarship to Stanford University at 16 earning degrees in chemical engineering and African American studies then went on to receive her medical degree from Cornell University. She served as a medical officer in the Peace Corps, became an Astronaut who flew on Space Shuttle Endeavor. She's received several awards. authored several books, and currently runs BioSentient Corp. Next month we do a unit on Space, and this is a great way to segue from one unit to the next.

Well, I certainly did that. 😆 - A bunch of us worked on a major clean-up at one of the old Masonic Lodge buildings. Glad to know I was on point with the holiday.

I also realized that I'm way better at cleaning with a partner than cleaning alone! I think there should be clubs where you take turns helping each other clean your houses and then have coffee.

In ADHD circles it frequently comes up that we should have a club to clean each other's houses, because we'll happily clean for others but can't seem to keep our own houses in order.

I had candles last night and am certainly doing the ritual cleaning thing.

This move is turning out to be both easy and difficult. Easy in the way things have come together but difficult in feeling all the emotions because I'm not numbed out on sugar. I'm really almost ready, it is mostly just the shed that needs to be cleared out and there are a couple pieces of furniture I'd like to get rid of. This urge to get rid of things is so strong and I know how to do it here, so want to get thru as much as possible before the move.

I didn't do anything this weekend but lay on the couch, I am doing much better but didn't want to push it too soon. I am still getting tired easily. I am on a steroid right now too. I went to Urgicare on Saturday (because the doctor I saw on Thursday was horrible and didn't even look into my 2 complaints, ear and sinus pain). Thursday night and all day Friday I was dizzy and couldn't take it any longer. Nothing is infected yet. My sinuses are really inflamed and my ears are really congested. If we don't get it all to drain then I will be looking at an infection. So he put me on flonase and the steroid and I have also been taking zyrtec. Still congested but nothing like I was.

The classroom illnesses continue. Nine present today. In addition to Covid, flu, RSV, and stomach viruses, we now have kids breaking out in rashes, ear infections, and pink eye. My foster grandparent volunteer got sick on Friday and will be out all week. I am continuing to try to avoid all of it by wearing a mask and opening windows. We got 3-4 inches of snow so we had a two-hour delay which was nice.

We got another light dusting of snow overnight, just enough to be pretty and peaceful.

I'm getting to the little stuff in move preparation, I want to take care of it all now so that it doesn't turn into the never-ending list during the move. Almost every hidey-hole in the house has been touched, the last drawer and basket will get taken care of today. The weather forecast is still for dryness over the weekend, so I'm still planning on doing the big free-pile purge. After that there is going to be very little to do until I move, but I'm sure I'll be able to find things to worry about.

We have several school around here that were closed because of illness. So the rash is an interesting one. On Saturday I was super itchy. More than I am ever itchy (I have eczema but this was way worse). I had to take Zyrtec. That made it better and then I took another dose on Sunday and now it is gone. I am thinking it had something to do with the influenza A.

Yesterday we hit like 50 and today we are back down to 30. I am hoping that with the bit of warmer weather that some of this illnesses will go away.

Woohoo... inside the house is pretty much ready to move. It feels so light and airy now, even tho you couldn't see most of the stuff squirreled away.

Woohoo... I have a taker for the one big thing that didn't go-away with the first free-pile.

Woohoo... my Niece goes to a salon in my new town and yesterday I made a hair appointment with her gal, for the Monday after I move. The salon is just five blocks away from the apartment, one of the nice advantages of being a townie again.

And I going to give an anticipatory woohoo to signing up for the Mayo Clinic diet program yesterday. My weight loss has been stalled for a couple weeks, so just eliminating sugar isn't enough anymore and I need the guidance of a solid well-balanced plan.

We finally got our snow yesterday, not a lot but it sure is pretty.

I've been watching the weather forecast for the weekend to see if it is going to be clear and dry, but this morning I realized it is probably not going to get warm enough for the snow to melt. So on to Plan B for the next free pile, which is to have the junk pickup people come take the anything I'm not able to re-home myself. So, for the theme today I am thankful to have figured that out so that I'm not stressing out about it.
