Welcome to the February 2020 "Travel Disney" Exercise Challenge. This month's theme will be real-life places to visit that inspired, were the location of, or may channel reel-life Disney movies!

If you’re returning, we’re excited to have you back! If you’re new, welcome to the team! Here’s how it works:

Each person chooses a time goal, and posts minutes towards that goal as they exercise. (You can post daily or just catch up when you can.) You decide what movement counts towards your goal - which can be a nice round total for the month, a specific number that means something to you, or a calculation based on a target number of minutes per day. Since this February has 29 days, here are some common conversions:

15 minutes/day = 435
20 minutes/day = 580
30 minutes/day = 870
45 minutes/day = 1305
1 hour/day = 1740

One of the special motivations of our Disney exercise challenge is color changing! This post will be updated with individual and team color changes as we make more and more progress.

10% - Beckoning Blue
25% - Onward Orange
50% - Planning Purple
75% - Packing Pink
90% - Ready-to-Go Red

100% - Getting Gone Green

We’re officially starting this challenge on February 1st, but if you don’t find this thread until later in the month, you’re still welcome to join!! Just post your goal and I’ll add you to the list. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, and to check out old threads to see what’s been going on.

Have a great month, everyone!!

I'm actually writing this from London, where the UK is just this minute leaving the EU. So not surprisingly, London is the first travel destination we're going to visit this month.

First up, Mary Poppins (1964), starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. Sadly, not a scene of Mary Poppins was shot in London--it was all done on the Disney soundstage in Burbank.

But if you want to channel some Mary Poppins while you're in London, there are a few places around town to visit:

-St. Paul's Cathedral. The front steps of the cathedral is the setting for the birdseed-selling woman who sings "Feeds the Birds."
-Bank of England. Mr. Banks works at Dawes Tomes Mousley Grubbs Fidelity Fiduciary Bank. The closest real-life place might be the Bank of England, founded in 1694 and one of the world's oldest banks. The Bank has a free museum about money.
-Chelsea & Kensington area. There is no real-life Cherry Tree Lane, but the row houses in the Chelsea and Kensington neighborhoods evoke the Bankses' street.
-Suffragette Memorial. Mrs. Banks fought for women's right to vote. According to Wikipedia, the Suffragette Memorial is located in Christchurch Gardens, Victoria, London. (Strangely enough, though, we just went past there today and the gardens are undergoing an entire remodel.)

Greetings from a very (very) rainy Disneyland Paris. We left sunshine in London (what a concept!) but haven't been as fortunate here.

In addition to the Frozen celebration Elizabeth Smith mentioned last month, DLP is presenting the Legends of the Force, a celebration of Star Wars. Fortunately the weather hasn't foreclosed all the special events, and we've managed to try many of the special Star Wars-themed food items! A fun day here despite the weather.

60 for Saturday and 120 for Sunday

Congratulations to ljcrochet for dancing and to me for walking around and between the DLP parks to Beckoning Blue!

My heart still is in London, so here are a couple more London stops before we continue on our virtual travels:

Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971) starring Angela Lansbury and David Tomlinson

This is a WWII-era story about London children who are evacuated and then help a witch-in-training defeat the Nazis. Unlike Mary Poppins, some scenes actually were filmed in England, at Corfe Castle in Dorset. Some connected London sites include:
-The Cabinet War Rooms. This bunker under Whitehall is where Churchill ran the war. Since it was closed up virtually intact before eventually being reopened as a museum, it's an amazing time-travel opportunity.
-Portobello Road Market. In search of a crucial item, the characters visit the Portobello Road Market (and sing a catchy tune about "the street where the riches of ages are sold"). The market still is being held.

    Peter Pan (1953)

-Fly-By. Peter takes the Darling children on a night-time fly-by of London. You can try your own fly-by on the Emirates Air Line, a gondola over the River Thames in the Docklands area (east London).
-Clock Tower. One stop during Peter's fly-by is the clock tower of Parliament, home to Big Ben the bell. This is easily found in the Westminster area. Unfortunately, all we saw this time was the clock face, as intensive renovations have the rest of the tower covered in scaffolding.
-Peter Pan statue. 1912 bronze statue of Peter Pan, found in Kensington Gardens (to the west of the Long Water, where Peter lands his bird's-nest boat in one of J.M. Barrie's stories).

    Next, on to Malta!

Another 120 in the parks today. Still overcast and some rain but not nearly as bad as it could have been.

Heading home tomorrow so I probably won't get a chance to update again until Wednesday.

Congratulations to PollyannaMom and Twilight Sparkle and the TEAM for turning Beckoning Blue and to me for turning Onward Orange!

Today's destination is the island of Malta, just 100 miles from Sicily in the Mediterranean. And our movie is Popeye (1980), starring Robin Williams and Shelley Duvall.

The set of the village of Sweethaven was built in Anchor Bay, Mellieha in Malta. And it's still there, as an open-air museum. Apparently you can even book your wedding there!
