February 19, 2011 Magic Western - Presidents of the Caribbean!

Hi all!

We just got back from sunny California! Spent a day at DLR, got my fix for a bit! :rotfl:

Welcome to our new cruise friends! For all our MA travelers, we are in Worcester County. I travel for work, though, and am familiar with the Taunton area.

We are on deck 6 in 6042. Anyone else on deck 6?

We are on deck 6--6124,6126 and 6128. The whole family is going, unless DS and DDIL decide they can't swing it next year. They have until beginning of December to decide. I'll be there no matter what!!

We are also on Deck 6 - I believe we are in 6062 and 6064! SOOO excited that we are under the 300 day mark!

we will be on deck 7, 7621. fingers crossed for an upgrade from cat 11, we will see....:rolleyes1

I am excited too! We don't have any other trips from now until then, so nothing else to distract me!;)

I am excited too! We don't have any other trips from now until then, so nothing else to distract me!;)

We do not either, so I guess that is why I have jumped back on board this thread since this is our next trip.

A few posts back there was some discussion about Key West- I would like to add a suggestion-

Last cruise on the Magic (we have only been on that one), we made sure to get some bottled water and gatorade on board. It was a pain to carry around. You could put it with your luggage, but this time, we will just buy some in port at Key West and bring it back on board. And/or if you do forget anything you can pick it up in Key West! :)

Also, last time we went to some place south of Playa Del Carmen, I cannot remember the name. It was a very newly developed port with a giant shopping mall. We ventured out of the area and found a cute beach town and spent the day at a beach club. So we will be excited to go to Cozumel for the first time.

Lastly, the day we were schedule to go to sting ray city on Grand Cayman, it was too windy. The trip was cancelled. This time we will consider staying closer to port since we spent so much time travelling and not much time doing anything.

In a few hundred days we will be on board! :woohoo:

just to let you guys know, i will be modifying the sailing list soonest....don't forget to let me know any details from those not already on the list....

also, how is the FE list coming along? maybe you could present a preliminary number of participants and numbers of people on which deck? no rush, no pressure:lmao:

OH

has anyone transferred their res to DU and what OBC did you get, if any:confused3

many THANX

almost a week has passed since the last post here.........

we seem to be in the summer doldrums already;)

be well

wish it was summer doldrums!!! it's beginning to feel peculiarly like winter again. :sad1:We have covered everything in the garden, as they are saying that there is going to be widespread frost tonight.....widespread frost????? my sister-in-law is in vermont, and she had snow in her yard yesterday!

I agree, Summer Doldrums is a laugh in MA. Frost warnings, starting the woodstove again, dressing like an eskimo for baseball and softballs games, I've had it!!!! It is May for goodness sakes!

But speaking of the weather, does anyone have an idea of what the air/water temps will be like on the cruise? We had to choose Feb vacation because of school and my husband's business but I am hoping that it will be warm. Granted it has got to be warmer than MA in February.

I too am feeling the chill in W Mass. For once my procrastination paid off - no frost on my plants that weren't planted yet! But my hallway looks like a green house with all the hanging baskets, flats and pots!

It will be nice to have a warm week in February! Here's what I found out about the water temperature:

Caribbean (in general)
Temperatures between summer and winter don't normally vary much more than five degrees in the Caribbean. The average temperature is about 80° year-round. Naturally, southern islands tend to be a little warmer than the northern ones. For example, Curaçao's southern location keeps its summer average at 83° and winter at 80°, while the northern Bahamas (Nassau) vary from a summer average of 81° down to a cool 69° average in the winter. There is a wet and dry season, with most rain falling between May/June and October/November. However, location and topography, such as rain shadows created by mountains, can play an important role in local weather conditions. Keep in mind that those cold fronts in the U.S. that dip down from the north can keep right on dipping to most of the northern islands, bringing cool temperatures and rough water in their wake.

And air temps:

During February the temperatures in the Caribbean typically vary between a daily high of about 82.4 degrees and a daily low of approximately 72.1 degrees. During the month of February, it rains an average of 8.7 days. Total precipitation during the month averages 1.9 inches. Bear in mind, however, that all precipitation, no matter how slight, is considered in the tables on this page.

so, at least i know we are still reading the posts here:lmao:

what about the transfer of ressies?

the FE list?

when will southwest post dates for Feb?...thru jan now

by the way, the people in charge of group travel at jetblue are complete...ummmm....fools. i had another word in mind but self-edited.

you can find the group rates once the regular rates are posted....of course, if there are very good deals on the web, you will have missed them once you wait to hear from the folks at jetblue (I actually had to email the company office to shake even this simple info out of the group travel office....they tell you they are very busy and will get back to you and, of course, they don't)......

southwest offers a 10% discount but NOT on any special web rates....not that they'll be any deals during Pres Week;)

anyhow....good to see we're all still here.

Sorry guys-I have been MIA!-- Bdays, mini-vaca, and now kitchen renovations--- plus end of school year and lots of bdays coming up--- so I promise to start working on the FE list as soon as things calm down!!!! Still excited about our cruise though!!!!!:yay:

Thanks A's Princess for the weather info.

Now, does anyone have any recommendations about what to do at the different ports. Unfortunately some of the more active excursions have a 10yr old age limit and dd will only be 9. (She just said, we'll just have to go again when I am 10). Can you rent jet skis to ride with your kids? Some of the excursions sound educational which could be neat. Any thoughts?:goodvibes

Have a great day!

here is an updated cruise list....not many on our cruise meet compared to the ship's capacity, that's for sure:lmao:

this list will be transformed into a more easily readable format soon....

please find yourselves and correct any mis-information. STILL need to know who are virgins, dcl virgins, etc...........

at the risk of being political or, God forbid (uh oh, I mentioned God, too....), patriotic: Happy Memorial Day which used to be Decoration Day.

Remember those who served and are serving.:thumbsup2

Then go eat a hamburger.

It's been awhile since I've been to the board but it's nice to see the days winding down. Last time I posted I was excited to see "300 Days" left, everything in between was the DW.:goofy:

Enjoy your Memorial Day!
