You can do it in MDE, but not sure how reliable it is. If you go to profile and manage payment methods and then pin settings. There is an option to *reset* pin, so not really sure if that also works to set one up, if you do not already have one.
Happened to us also, first day arrived Epcot 825 to ride soarin first standby. Opened at 9, mb didn't work. Lady with iPad tried, couldn't fix it. Directed to back of line at guest relations. They did fix it finally, I very nicely asked for fast-pass. Was very nicely told no. Finally made it to soarin to 40 minute wait. Left a sour taste but made a conscious effort to get over it.

Yes go to MDE
then Profile
Then payment and manage pins
Go to pin and set it
this is how I did it originally and then reset it on a later trip- totally reliable
OP our MBs have been fine for numerous trips, even using them interchangeably. We had one "Blue mickey" on the last trip which was fixed immediately ( I think it was DH user error forgetting which finger he used for the scan). Worked way better than the old paper tickets, I was always behind the family with 10 kids that didnt have their right tickets or the reader strip was worn or whatever.
