hi all,
so i am at work last night(christmas night) and something strange comes over the FDNY radio.the FDNY dispatcher calls FDNY rescue unit and sends them to NEW JERSEY.in my whole time on the job,i have never heard a nyc unit sent to NJ.so we look up the job and its sad. A New Jersey police emergency service unit truck has slid off a road on a bridge and landed in the river with both police officers missing and assumed to be trapped in the cab of the truck.the truck was sumerged in the water, completely under the water.NYPD and FDNY divers tried to get to these two hereos in time.sadly one officer was found and pronunced dead christmas night at a area hospital, the other is still missing and well after almost 19 hours missing in a river, under water the new jersey police dept, has declared him LODD(line of duty death)so on christmas night 2 husbands,2 fathers, etc, have died, very sad!! please pray for these familys.

My husband was listening to that on his scanner(he's a FF here in NJ) and he heard Newark's rescue called out and Lyndhurst, NJ sent their boat.
He called my brother who is on Oradell NJ's fire dept to see if he was going(they have a boat), but he said Wallington, NJ would be called before Oradell.
I am surprised NYC went out. Very sad situation. :sad1:

here is the story.
Search Resumes for a Missing Police Officer The Two Plunged Off a Drawbridge in a Tragic Accident
By Lisa Colagrossi
(Jersey City-WABC, December 26, 2005) - Recovery crews have resumed their search for a missing police officer who is presumed dead. He and his partner's emergency truck plunged off a drawbridge in a freak accident.

It happened last night on the Lincoln Highway Bridge linking Jersey City to Kearny.
Eyewitness News reporter Lisa Colagrossi is in Jersey City with details.

Chief Troy, Jersey City Police Department: "Members in our department are heartbroken over this lost. There's great grief throughout the department."

Forty-year-old Shawn Corsin and 30-year-old Robert Nguygen, both veteran officers plunged to their death last night when they drove off the Lincoln Highway Bridge. The men were assisting other officers who were stopping traffic eastbound because of a malfunctioning warning gate and light system.

Chief Troy, Jersey City Police Department: "When they got done delivering the flares the other officers were setting the flares. Another incident did occur there not related to what they were doing, which distracted a lot officers at the scene. These two officers got back in their truck and headed east not knowing the bridge was open for an oncoming target."

They drove their emergency service vehicle right off the bridge--45 feet into the Hackensack River.

The response was immediate but not enough. Rain and heavy fog hampered rescue efforts.

Two men--leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication.

Jerramiah Healy, Jersey City Mayor: "Well I knew both of these men pesonally--one of them went to high school with my older son. The other fine young man was a coach to both of my sons in track, so this is terrible lost for all of us."

At noontime you could see recovery teams from the New Jersey state police, U.S. Coast Guard and a host of other agencies. They say they won't stop until officer Nguygen's body is found.

The bridge remains closed and will remain closed until the recovery mission is complete.

That is horrible. How sad for the families of these two heroes. Just a week or two ago, a local state trooper was killed in the line of duty. His 2 kids go to my school. He pulled over a car (the driver was violating multiple terms of parole) and he was shot twice. Please keep the families of those two officers along with the state trooper in our thoughts, especially during the holiday season.

In a town about an hour from here, just before Christmas there was a one vehicle accident and the EMT who was directing traffic was called to the accident to identify the body, his father. :sad1:
