Faxing Preferences to Resort?

I know this question has been asked before, but with the search function not working I have not found it. How many days before arrival should we fax our request to our resort? The WDWIG site indiates 4 days prior, but I have hear no earlier than 48 hours.

Is 4 days prior to arrival day the right timeframe to fax preferences into our resort?

The specific resort you're staying at won't receive your reservation in their systems until five days out from your arrival. I would send it then.
