xbox kinects for Christmas, and I'm looking for older (less expensive games) for the grandparents to purchase. Thanks! He's into sports, plus loves Call of Duty types of games (please no flames - he's a mild mannered kid). Also, looking for new ds games for ds7 (who has a knack for games, he plays more on a 12 year old level).

Until I read that sentence, I thought "Oh no.....here we go"

DS13 likes Scribblenauts -- he uses it to create short cartoons, usually with very irreverent humor.

I edited my post to say it's xbox, but I'm still looking for ds games as well. My kids love scribblenauts, and they like to solve the problems, and are close to the end, I believe.

OK, how about Star Wars?

The best SW sub-series is generally considered to be KOTOR (Knights of the Old Republic); there is a LOT of swordplay in these. I know it's old and they may already have it, but it's an excellent series with a fairly high difficulty level.

Any of the Lego games would be great - Lego Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter. If he likes Call of Duty, he would also probably like Halo (I'm a Halo addict, AND a Mom). I'm sure you can get the older ones used, and the newest game is Halo:Reach.

My boys are 13 and 15. Their favorite x-box games include: all of the Halo games, Call of Duty, Fallout, Gears of War, Left for Dead, Army of Two.

Sports: the Madden NFL games and NHL hockey.

I will second the vote for ANY of the Lego Games...They easy to pick up, can be played single or multiplayer, and are TONS of fun. I have played them all, with Harry Potter being my ALL time favorite..and the best part, most of those can be bought for $19.99 in most places new, except HP, which is $29 I think still.

You can also look into renting games first through Gamefly, which is like Netflix for video games. You can choose to keep them and buy them, or play till your bored of it, and send it back for another. They rent out all systems, including DS games. I love my Gamefly membership..it has saved me TONS of money on buying games that look cool, but in reality I hated, or vice versa..

Agree. My son LOVES these games. One of them got messed up and we had to buy it again and we had a really hard time getting it used. Very high demand.

DH loves Call of Duty: Black Ops, but it just came out so it'll probably still be $60. He also just bought Left for Dead 2, which seems pretty cool but HARD, and it was only $20. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Fallout games, but the newest one might still be around $50 (came out about a month ago).

I should mention though that I don't actually play any of them, just watch DH play (which is entertaining to me IDK why :confused3)

a third or fourth for the star wars series and the knights of the old republic.

Also the Halo series. My DS 12 has bought a couple of the older Halo ones at the used store for under 20 and plays them a lot. Asked for halo 3 drop shock troopers or something like that for Christmas and said It has been out for a while. He bought the Halo reach one with birthday money and was mad when I wouldn't take him at midnight on a school night!

He also likes the COD ones.

By 12 they are turning away from the legos series it seems. He had them for his PS but doesn't want any for his Xbox that he uses now.

Don't let your hubby over look the frying pan as a weapon. DS15 does some serious damage with it and it is funniest thing to watch and listen to him do.

To the OP, DS15 has been playing T and M rated games for several years now. Reasons 1 - DH is a big time gamer and they are in the house. The two of them play several together and know exactly what the other is going to be doing. Is very cool to watch them play. 2nd reason - DS has been taught that there is a difference between games and real life. He doesn't live in a world of make believe.

I think we own every single game that is mentioned on here. Several, not only do the guys play, but DD13 and I play them. For Christmas, DS is getting the new SW game and Halo Reach. COD Black Op's and Fallout New Vegas are for the two guys. Fable III is for DD. I think there is 2 other games tucked in the closet by DH for gifts, but not sure.

I love to watch DH play, the kids not so much, unless the boy is playing with his dad. When DH plays Dragon Age, I point out all the sparklies for him.

May I say very well put! and I agree 100%

My DS 12 has been playing all these games for a couple of years also. He is a very intelligent, quiet, polite boy, good student and active Boy Scout, so no flames from me.

No flames from me either - DS is 11 and has been playing these game for a year or two. Plus most of his friends have the same ones.

He LOVES his COD Black Ops - that is all I heard about before it came out. He doesn't even want any other XBox games.

DH LOVES his Madden!

My 12 yr old loved Red Dead Redemption. It takes place in the Wild West and you ride horses. He has moved on to Halo Reach.

DS recommends Star Wars Jedi Knight and Jedi Academy, BattleFront 1 & 2, Fable II for older games.

For used games in the $20 range my DS12 recommends Skate, Skate 2, Skate 3, Modern Warfare 2, Assassins Creed, Assassins Creed 2, Lost Planet, Lost Planet 2, Dirt 2, Halo series. He has also offered that if your DS gets X-Box Live he can 'friend' him and show him the ropes, just PM me if you are interested.
