Favorite under-rated ride, experience, and foods (and what's over-rated)!

Underrated

Experience: Tom Sawyer Island! Perfect place to escape crowds at MK. Kids can roam free, you can sit down and chill.
Food: character meal at Garden Grill - highlight of our last trip.

Overrated
Agree Rise, tho great, is overrated. Slinky Dog too.
Cali Grill overrated and overpriced! Also Mickey bars. I don’t like how they taste and they make a huge mess.
Tom Sawyer Island never gets enough love. It's a perfect spot to people watch and just relax.

I would phrase this as -

Things I appreciate more than others -
Rides - Living with the Land, Tom Sawyer Island, Teacups
Experiences - One Man's Dream (It's the heart and soul of WDW) and Rafiki's Planet Watch
Restaurants - Sanaa

Things others appreciate more than me -
Rides - Tomorrowland Speedway (I would cheer if this was replaced)
Experiences - Dessert parties (I love desserts, but I'm done after maybe 5 bites, this would be totally wasted on me)
Restaurants (food) - fancy cupcakes (they always look better than they taste), Whispering Canyon Cafe, Liberty Tree Tavern (Thanksgiving just doesn't appeal to me on a hot day at a theme park)

Underrated:
Rides: HOP, Living WTL
Food: Jungle Skipper

Overrated
Rides: 7DMT, SDD, Jungle Cruise
Food: Sci Fi

I love the way you phrased that. I tend to come across negative and that's usually not my intent but in my verbiage. But saying something as simple as, "Things I appreciate more than others" is such a lovely way of stating your opinion. I will be borrowing this:flower1:

Underrated

Ride: carousel of progress, Nemo musical (RIP), Muppets 3D (childhood love), Monsters Factory Laugh Floor (I might have just had a good show), Indiana Jones stunt show
Experience: Story-time with Belle (wasn’t sure if this was a ride or experience) - I actually think this is maybe the most perfect execution of what it is trying to accomplish; or maybe it's because my daughter was the beast.
Food: Agree on Mickey Bars - they are spiritual to me as I never got anything like this as a kid due to price, and now it’s my validation of financial success.

Overrated
Ride: Winnie the Pooh, Jungle Cruise
Food: almost all, but especially MK, and ESPECIALLY Be our Guest and Dole Whip (really, I don’t get the fascination)

Gideon's Bakehouse (NO cookies are worth a 3+ hour wait)
The overrated (like...astonishingly overrated) experience of going to Gideon's Bakehouse last summer is something my mom and I still talk and laugh about now. That place is synonymous with "underwhelming" to us.

We weren't exactly sure what to expect of the place, but it sure as heck wasn't a smallish counter of baked goods. Not after needing to get put on a list with a return time (I think we had an hour and a half to kill). I mean, I figured we were in store for something super cool.

Nope. I got a piece of cake. I mean...it was good, but...???

I'll come back and share my favorite underrated stuff in a minute. I just had to agree with you on Gideon's! I just don't GET it!

I’ve never done One Man’s Dream! Putting it on my list for July. Also I HATE Tomorrowland speedway. So much

Okay..."Things I appreciate more than others might":
  • Ride: Na'vi River Journey (it's so pretty and relaxing; I do wish it was longer though)
  • Experience: Country Bear Jamboree (especially when in that tired/silly limbo state of existence late at night when everything is just SO funny!)
  • Food: Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar (It's a MUST to eat at least one on the trip...often two.)
Now..."Things I might not appreciate as much as others do":
  • Ride: Flight of Passage (one and done for me. It was fine, but I actually prefer Soarin')
  • Experience: Ummm...the entirety of Hollywood Studios? It's just not my scene. I much prefer the other three parks. HS is a distant fourth.
  • Food: Gideon's Bakehouse (the cake I got was pretty good, but the hype, the wait, and the price were beyond absurd.)

Underrated:
Drink: resort coffee from the huge urns.
Ride: Kali
Experience: anytime spent with Mulan. She’s the absolute best with nervous kids.
Food: cape may cafe breakfast

Overrated:
Drink: margaritas in Mexico
Ride: pirates
Experience: monorail if more than 2 stops
Food: turkey legs

Underrated:
Ride: Voyage of the Little Mermaid
Experience: any special exhibit in the countries at Epcot (although, the lack of appreciation did give us one of our favorite overheard quotes of all time: "we ain't got time for this cultural sh*t" - overheard about 20 years ago and we still laugh about it!)
Food/Restaurant: nothing that I can think of that is currently offered

Overrated:
Ride: I'm just going to say it...Peter Pan's Flight, I like it and totally appreciate the nostalgia but just not the hype level that it is at.
Experience: the dessert parties, we've done them twice...they keep making them higher in price and lower in "specialness"
Food/Restaurant: Be our Guest, I always get caught up in the FOMO and make an ADR and we always walk away totally underwhelmed.

Underrated:
Ride: Tough to be a bug
Experience: None
Food/Restaurant: It used to be trails end but they destroyed it with the new menu. Liberty Tree Tavern

Overrated:
Ride: Small world....yup I said it, soarin
Experience: Pretty much all of them, way to much $$$$ for what you get in return.
Food/Restaurant: There's a lot for us in this category Be our Guest, Beaches and Cream, Gideon's, Topolinos Terrace, Skipper Canteen.....so many in this category

Underrated:
Ride: Grand Fiesta
Experience: Pirates League
Food/Restaurant: Skipper Canteen

Overrated:
Ride: Pirates of the Caribbean (honestly, it's fine, but the wait is so long and it breaks down so much)
Experience: The Buses :D
Food/Restaurant: O'hana

Good thread!

Underrated:
Ride: Living with the Land for sure, Muppets 3D, MFSR, Tiki Room, Animal walking tours and bird show at AK, Tom Sawyer Island, Skyliner - this was the highlight of my last trip!
Food/Restaurant: Skipper Canteen, Trails End Breakfast, Food court at AOA - in fact I like most food courts at the resorts, Blue and green milk,

Overrated:
Ride: 7DMT, Frozen Ride (liked it better as Maelstrom)
Food/restaurant: Le Cellier, BOG dinner, Woody's Lunchbox

I do feel like my overrated/underrated are also directly tied to how long I waited for them.

Like if I had had to Wait ages for skipper canteen it wouldn't be that great. But it was fantastic for pretty much walking in, sitting down and getting decent food.

Underrated Ride: Mission Space Orange - one of my favorite rides, and for as short as the waits were, I would've loved to have done it multiple times.
People also seemed to hate on Navi River Journey, but I appreciated the chill relaxing nature of the ride. It's a fairly wait though, so without genie+, I might've felt differently.
Star Tours is another "good value" ride when considering how short the wait is and how you can get a different tour each time.
Expedition Everest late in the day can be as short as 10 min, which is maybe the best thill "value" in all of the parks.

Underrated Food: Anandpur Ice Cream Truck - hands down the best ice cream at any of the parks.

Overrated Rides: Pretty much any of the dark rides with super long waits, with Peter Pan and Winnie the Pooh at the top of the list.

Overrated Food: Assorted Macaroons at the France Pavilion. Waited in line for 20 min at Les Halles in Epcot to pay $12 for 5 small macaroons that were dry and had unnatural flavors. Creme Brulee ,on the other hand, was pretty good.
Ice Cream at Epic Eats in HS was not good either.

I love the old boat rides in MK and EP, like It’s. A Small World and Living with the Land.

I hate everything with 3D and tons of jerky movements, like Ratatouille and FOP.

I agree with this. Like Gideon’s is good but in the context of a 3 hour wait, overrated. If there was no wait, they wouldn’t be on my overrated list.
