Hi,

Looking for some recommendations on good places to eat in the North Shore area. Spending an afternoon up in that area and want a nice dinner before heading back to Aulani. Nothing fancy. I love seafood, my cousin does not, she mostly eats vegetarian.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

We like the Beach House in Haleiwa. 62-540 Kamehameha Hwy, Haleiwa, HI 96712. Not fancy at all. Right across the road from the beach.

Haleʻiwa Beach House. We mainly liked it because our waitress was really nice and there was a little grassy area where our son ran around with some other kids he made friends with. The ocean is across the street. The food was good enough and there was a good breeze.

bakery ... there are two really good bakeries I love ... but one is more for locals and the other is more touristy/North Shore ... if you want to know, let me know ... not sure if bakeries are something you want to look into

SHAVE ICE ... please please please do NOT add a "D" at the end of SHAVE ... we call it SHAVE ICE :)
There are a THOUSAND places to get good shave ice but the old school mac-daddy original is Matsumoto's Shave Ice in Haleiwa ... I would HIGHLY suggest to go because old man Matsumoto said when he retires, they are closing the store because his keiki (kids) and moopuna (grandkids) do not want to take it over

I am interested in the bakeries!

Haleiwa Beach House is often recommended, and Haleiwa Joe's is another one not far up the road.

It's super casual and quick service, but we ate at Kono's in Haleiwa and it was amazing! Its outdoor picnic table seating, but the pork bomber was one of the tastiest things we ate the whole trip!

LOL, I had to laugh when I first saw North Shore! You see, the North Shore in our state is North shore of Lake Superior!!!! A very different type of North Shore than you are talking about :)

Ok, so there are at least two bakeries in Waialua/Haleiwa that I really like. The one that I prefer to go to (its closer to my sister's house and has more local kine) is Paalaa Kai Bakery ... its a local favorite but not near the touristy area ... its by a bunch of houses, so you'll have to trust whatever GPS you are using

The second one I like but don't go do that much because its in Haleiwa town (with all the new changes, I don't go there much anymore ... doesn't remind me of my childhood much anymore :( ... sorry some change just aren't good in my opinion) .. any who ... the other one is Waialua Bakery & Juice Bar, don't let the name confuse you, its actually in Haleiwa town, not Waialua

SOOOOOOO .. North Shore is famous for its shrimp ... are you intersted in the Shrimp trucks? How far north do you plan on going? That's important because there are trucks up and down the North Shore ... Do you plan to go as far north as Kahuku? Or do you plan on staying around Haleiwa and Pupukea? Maybe hit Shark's Cove? and no futher? which might be a good idea because traffic is HORRIBLE up past Haleiwa town ...

Wow thanks for all of the great replies!!! I will start looking at some of these websites! Can't wait to get to Hawaii!!!

What areas are you looking for? For Oahu only? I still hope to do a write up for each island sometime ... I don't have the time now but plan on doing it ... short answers are easy right now ... we are going on a Disney River Cruise soon, so the long write ups gotta wait ... but lemme know what areas you interested in ... aloha

I promise I'll try ... where you staying? Which side you visiting? Where you flying in/out of? Each side of BI is different. Hilo has one of my most favorite places to eat ☺

Flying into Kona, staying at Hilton Waikoloa Village. Plan to take Saddle road over to Hilo side to go to Akaka falls and then make way to Waimea and then a chocolate farm tour. Next day going to Mountain Thunder coffee farm for sure.

Nice! But .. with the protests now, Saddle Road is closed. I'll write more later when I get the chance .. just wanted you to know this ASAP
