Favorite Non-Signature Seafood?

I’m doing a bait and switch here because I’m going to ask for your favorite seafood meal at WDW if the signature/two credit DDP options are excluded (The Boathouse, Paddlefish, Morimoto etc). It doesn’t have to be a fully seafood place but something with great seafood (especially shellfish).

I had been planning on the Boathouse, which we’ve been to and love, but we’ve decided we’re doing the dining plan and I hate the idea of using two credits on that meal. My current top two contenders are the dinner buffet at Cape May Cafe or Ale and Compass but would be happy for other suggestions or reviews of those places!

Man I'd be at Boma for the single credit they charge and eat a ton of their salmon...it was great...if salmon is your thing. I know you mention shellfish but I'd be at Boma 8 nights a week if I could! I'll keep thinking of shellfish specific.

I think Coral Reef is 1 credit. If it is, that's an obvious choice, though I haven't been there in ages.

Also in Epcot, we're planning dinner at Hacienda, for the parrillada del mar. This serves two, so you need to spend two credits on it, but that seems fair. They have a couple different seafood entrees as well.

Boatwrights at Port Orleans is also an option, if you are willing to travel. I've had the jambalaya there, and while I am no authority, I thought it was good. They have several other seafood dishes.

And I love the conch fritters at Olivia's, though I haven't had any of their other current seafood dishes. I used to love the salmon BLT they did for lunch, but that was years ago.

I never think of AKL because it's so far away from everything else, but you're tempting me to switch up our plans and make an afternoon out of a trip over there! This is a resort day meal I'm trying to decide on.

Thank you! I should have specified that this is a meal for a day when we won't be using a park ticket, so things inside the parks are out. Boatwrights is a good idea though - thank you!

It's not nearly as 'far away from everything' as you think. And it's well worth the trip for Boma.........! And the AKL resort itself.....

Alright, you're selling me! As the AKL expert, do you definitely think Boma is the choice over Sanaa if we make the trip? I have a three year old who would LOVE to see a giraffe as he's eating....

Or is there a place we could just watch the animals a bit before or after a dinner at Boma if that's what we go with? I'm embarrassed to admit I've never even made it over to AKL and had been planning to actually stay there on one of our next trips, but would be nice to get a taste of it first!

I personally like Saana better than Boma.

There are many animal observation areas to check out around the lobby if you choose Boma.

I would never call myself an expert on anything Disney - just a long-time visitor and fan! Two very different experiences and two very different menus. We prefer Boma for the variety, but love both. I absolutely would recommend you take a look at the Sanaa menu before deciding. Dining there is an awesome experience, especially during the day with the animals outside. We love the simplicity and taste of their bread/sauces option - we make a meal of it sometimes. But you have to decide if the food at Sanaa (which is very different from Boma) is for your family. If you opt for Boma, you absolutely could get there early and enjoy a number of animal viewing options just off the main lobby in Jambo House (where Boma is located - Sanaa is located in Kidani). There's the main viewing area out the back of the lobby. There are also view 'decks' off the side of the lobby. Also, just outside Boma is the main pool at Jambo. On the other side of the pool, you can walk to see the flamingo area, and also another animal viewing spot. Often at these viewing spots, there are cast members from Africa there for questions and information - we've had some amazing conversations with these folks about their home, their experiences, and the animals on the savanna.

If you have not yet experienced AKL, I would highly recommend it. It's our favorite resort anywhere, not just WDW. But there are also those who don't care for it. You should go and try it and decide for yourself..... Enjoy your trip, whatever you decide!

Thank you so much for the overview! The menu at both places look great! I am now thinking about adding a Boma breakfast to our departure day. We don't leave until later in the day, and I hadn't come up with a plan yet. Exploring AKL might just be the perfect option!

Wailulu Bar and Grill at the new Poly Tower has been getting very positive feedback for:

Grilled Fish of the Day

Green Curry Broth, Jasmine Rice, Chickpeas, Sweet Potato
$32.00

One nicely detailed experience:

We just checked into the Polynesian Tower today for the Marathon Weekend and had dinner at Wailulu. Have to say it was excellent. One of our best meals at Disney lately.

We started with the Misubi which is made with spam. It was delicious:

I had the Grilled Fish of the day and it was amazing. Cannot overstate just how good it was:

My wife had the chicken poke bowl and it was excellent too:

For desert we had the chocolate cake which was very good.

It was also a very cozy relaxing place to eat with views of the lake. We will probably eat here again this trip.

I’ve seen others recommend this specific dish too. Here’s the menu-

Right now they’re still only doing walk-ups. Will likely add ADRS at some point.

breakfast is also a great idea. The smells alone are worth it and you'll be an instant fan of AKL!

Did you mean they’re not? I looked at the menu and it does look great but the internet suggests they don’t accept the dining plan.
PP didn’t realize you were on the DDP. Swolphin restaurants are not a part of that, so their suggestions are sadly not available to you.
