What are your favorite Nashville restaurants in the downtown area as well as around Opry Mills Mall?? What are your favorite things to do there?/

We love going to Opry Mills when we're in Nashville! They have Rainforest Cafe there and Tony Roma's, which are both good places to eat!

Hey there!

If you like fried catfish and fried chicken, the **** on the Walk, (right on Briley Pkwy, off the service road, at the end on the same side as the mall) is a great place. Fabulous corn bread. Good, fun atmosphere.

The Opryland Hotel (is it called something else now? Gaylord something? It'll always be the Opryland Hotel to me... oh how I miss Opryland!!) also has a couple of great restaurants with fantastic atmosphere. In fact, if you've never been in the hotel, it's absolutely worth going to, just to see the greenhouses inside.

There are a couple other restaurants I used to love going to, but they are all down in Franklin, which is a bit of a haul.

OH! The White Trash Cafe is great too.... it's down by the fairgrounds, right off 65 S....

This is not at Opry Mills but we love The Old Spagetti Factory.

At OM I like to get a sandwich in the Apple Barn followed by something yummy like apple dumpling with ice cream.

The Grand Ole Opry is in that same area and there is a little country music museum that is free to walk through. You can go in the Opry and look around in the gift shop, they do tours but there is a fee.....not sure how much that is though, we've never taken the tour (have been all over the Opry plenty of times for clogging competitions).

The Opryland Hotel is neat to go walk around in, kind of like a city under a glass roof with trails and a boat ride, food court, waterfalls. I don't know if there are fountains shows all year but from end of November through December they do fountain shows (dancing waters) with Christmas music and sometimes have live pianist. They also do a yule ceremony a couple of times a day during this time.

There is the General Jackson Showboat. The Hermitage. If you have kids there is a Science Museum but the name escapes me right now.

Inside Opry Mills there is a black light mini golf and one of those huge arcade places like Dave & Busters but I don't think it's called Dave & Busters.

Sure! I am CRACKING UP that the name of the restaurant was blocked... it's c*ck... as in rooster... as in, not a dirty word, but a bird.

Also... I don't know what ya'll are into, The Hermitage is awesome (Andrew Jackson), as is Centennial Park downtown (they have a scale replica of the Parthenon - and it's a free park), Fort Nashboro.... then there is the legend of The Bell Witch (Adams, TN).... there's a ton of stuff to do from historic to shopping.

And, tons of good food... some of the best Mom and Pop's restaurants ever.

If you are looking for good BBQ (real, southern bbq that doesn't involve "BBQ" sauce), there is a little joint in Springfield TN called White's BBQ... my PaPaw will probably be at one of the tables, say Hi for me!

I love Jacks barbeque right down town.

Jacks is awesome. Go to the Wildhorse Saloon and have some fried pickles. OMG are they good. And then walk down the street and get some pralines by Leon. Country Music Hall of Fame is very nice to see. The Ryman is a beautiful historic building to see.

Downtown, check out Jacks, Wild Horse Saloon, Pancake Pantry, Big River Grille. Check out the Ryman, the hall of fame.

Opry Mills- I love Dave and Busters, Apple Barn, Tony Romo, the seafood place isn't that great. Check out the Opry house, they do tours doing the day.

And another place to check out off Highway 100 in Nashville is Loveless Cafe. I hear a lot of good about it.

I live about 5 minutes from Loveless, and FWIW, I think it's grossly overpriced. We prefer Cracker Barrell, I kid you not! LOL

My favorite places to eat (as a local):

-Monell's (family-style restaurant in Germantown area of downtown)
-Arnold's (meat and 3 near Music Row)
-Flying Saucer in Union Station Hotel (175+ beers on tap and the best hot pretzels you'll ever put in your mouth)
-Pancake Pantry (Hillsboro Village) for breakfast
-Rosepepper Cantina (East Nashville) if you love margaritas this is the place for you...amazing range of fabulous flavors, all made fresh!

My favorite place to eat inside Opry Mills is Romano's Macaroni Grill. I agree that the Gaylord Opryland Hotel is amazing and definitely worth a walkthrough.

LOVE Monell's - definitely the best food in Nashville. We always eat at Mac Grille in Opry Mills too. Over on West End there is a J.Alexander's that has great food - steaks and such. The restaurants inside the Opryland hotel are good but can be a bit on the pricey side.

I used to live in Nashville and I really miss the food. I live in New England now and there is no comparison to the quality and cleanliness that you see down south.

I don't know if I would use the words 'quality' and 'cleanliness'... But, I have to say that when we travel, I often cannot WAIT to get back and have some southern food, with some flavor!!!! Nothing beats southern food!

And, it is also nice when one receives friendly southern service.. Instead of somebody who just says... "What'll it be" without even looking up at you. Like, hurry up, you are wasting my time...

I grew up in Nashville, and I second the rec. for Monell's. Also, go to the Elliston Place Soda Shop. Wonderful, truly "old-time" soda fountain diner.

I used to like wandering downtown (with friends, of course) around the Legislative Plaza and the War Memorial building. It's really pretty around 2nd avenue at night and quite safe (or, at least, it used to be).

Do go and see one of the parks--Percy Warner Park is especially nice for a picnic.

I also love Spaghetti Factory, even though it's a chain. Loveless Cafe is very good. There's a buffet I've always liked called Heritage House Smorgasbord. They have great fried chicken and apple fritters and other typical southern food. It isn't downtown, but it's really good.

And if you're in the mood for dessert, I highly recommend Gigi's Cupcakes. They have several locations around Nashville and they're starting to spread out to other areas as well. Actually, a new location is opening in my town next week - I'm excited; I love those cupcakes!

ETA - Dave and Busters used to be a Jillian's. Maybe that's what you were thinking of, live4christp1.

We still miss Opryland also. No one will ever understand why they closed it and built a MALL. We have 3 favorite places to eat downtown-Demos Steak and Spaghetti, The Old Spaghetti Factory, and The Melting Pot(Very upscale fondue-yummy). Jack's is supposed to be very good also, but we've never eaten there. We also love Rain Forest Cafe in Opry Mills.
