October is here again and every October I spend the month watching scary movies. The rest of the year I avoid scary but around Halloween it's just silly fun which has become a 'thing' for me.

I'm not a fan of out and out gore but tend to like creepy with a storyline like "Sleepy Hallow" or Dark Comedy/Horror like "American Werewolf in London" & "Zombieland".

This weekend I watched 'Fright Night' and right now I'm watching "Interview with the Vampire". The other day I discovered Netflix on-line has some good ones so the countdown has begun already even though i didn't even get to the video store just yet. I'm always looking for some new good ones so i was curious what other people like.

It's also fun to hear about what movies other people will never watch again. For me it's the "Exorcist" :scared1::scared1:, I read the book and watched the movie as a teen (on channel 5 I think) and will never, ever do either again. :scared1::scared1:

I usually watch Hocus Pocus(must do), Disney's Halloweentown series (a must do for me!) i dont really do the scary ones but love these!

Harold and Maude! I haven't seen it in ages.

Disney's 1950's cartoon version of Legend of Sleepy Hollow with Bing Crosby narrating is a Halloween tradition in our house! Bing's sauve delivery always fascinates me!

Hocus Pocus
Sleepy Hollow
Beetlejuice
Harry Potter (all of them)
House on Haunted Hill (Vincent Price version)
What Lies Beneath
Halloweentown
Halloween
Scooby Doo and the Witch's Ghost (Love the Hex Girls)
Rocky Horror Picture Show

I love Corpse Bride. It's probably one of my favorite of all movies, not just Halloween movies.

I love the reminders of all my old favorites!

I've seen all the one's mentioned except for "Monster Squad", "Bride of Boogedy", "Legend of Sleepy Hollow with Bing Crosby narrating" and "Harold and Maude".

Halloweentown is on tonight on The Disney Channel!!!!

I LOVE the Disney Halloween movies - Halloweentown, Twitches, Hocus Pocus (now shown on ABC Family Channel), Scream Team, Littlest Vampire, etc.

But I truly love the original Halloween, Carrie & my all-time favorite scary movie, The Shining.

Mad Monster Party. Think Halloween version of Rankin/Bass characters like Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.

My daughter likes watching Jack the Pumpkin King...Nightmare Before Christmas and Heffalump Halloween with Winnie the Pooh and gang.

My wife likes Hocus Pocus.

My Halloween tradition has been to watch the 1922 silent Horror classic from Germany...Nosferatu.

An updated version of Nosferatu came out in the early 90's. However, just a few years ago a movie about the making of Nosferatu was released call "Shadow of the Vampire", staring Willem Defoe. It told the story of how the crew was really creeped out about the lead actor in Nosferatu, Max Schreck. Apparently he was such a devoted method actor, the crew really started to believe he was a vampire.
Treat yourself some night and watch them both back to back.

My all time favorite halloween movie is Young Frankenstein. I love Gene Wilder and Cloris Leachman. But, I guess it's not really a scary movie.

As far as really scary movies I like the original Exorcist and the new Amittyville Horror with Ryan Reynolds- yum!;)

The original Universal Dracula/Frankenstein/Mummy/Wolfman. Then there are the old Hammer films w/Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing (Hammer just released it's first film in years-'Let Me In'-and fittingly it's a vampire movie, and it really wasn't bad).

Of course, there are only 2 modern classics that I can think of; the original Halloween and Shining. Movies are so much better w/o the gratuitous blood and gore.

Definitely Hocus Pocus to watch if I don't want to be scared.

Halloween and Halloween 2 to get scared. Also When a Stranger Calls is a good scary movie.
