Favorite European Airline

I have two trips to Italy (hopefully) happening next year. One will be in to Milan and out of Zurich, the other will be in to Milan and out of Naples. My airport stinks for international flights so I often book the hub and then grab a flight to the hub. I am in the south east and often fly out of NYC or BOS.
If you have a favorite airline for international flights, I'd love to hear about them. I have read reviews online, but often people only write reviews to complain so I take them with a grain of salt. Thanks!

Now is not a good time to research flights and airlines to Europe for summer 2022. Due to the Presidential Executive Order which bans European tourists from entering USA, many European airline have reduced the routes to America or totally cancelled routes. You will not get an accurate idea of airlines, routes and prices right now. For example, the Irish airline Aer Lingus is only flying to Chicago, JFK, Boston and Washington right now. The only people flying transatlantic are people who are travelling with American passports. Even when Biden removes the travel ban, it is very likely that European airline routes to America will be very different to what they were before Covid.

I had a good experience with Alitalia when I flew to Italy. I've also had good experiences with Lufthansa in the past.

Alitalia no longer exists. There is a new airline ITA, that will be Italy's flag carrier once it gets up and running next month.

I have limited experience, as we've only flown KLM. They were great, and I'm actually hoping to fly them again in late March when we go over again, but don't have our tickets yet. Was flying out of Dulles but going out of PHL for next flight.
Have fun on your trips!

Alitalia was the worst airline I ever flew. But I liked Icelandic air a lot. i Agree with another response This not being a good time to look at flights from the US. But there are always a couple regional airlines within individual counties that may be good to look into depending on your gateway city. I always check out flights on Expedia to see the options available. You could look at connecting flights coming from the states or just a flight from the European city you land in and where you want to end up. You will want to check out requirements for all the flights, it could be that US citizens will need proof of vaccine and a timely negative test to even get on a flight,
