My book club is having a shower for a member of the group. We are each giving her a favorite children's book. Some of mine (or my children's) are taken so I was wondering if you have any ideas.

Thanks for any ideas.

We love an old one called Snuggle Piggy and the Magic Blanket. It is so cute! I had to get us a copy after a friend let us borrow her copy. Could only find a used one through Amazon, but it is in great shape. Also like all the classics: Goodnight Moon, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, Where the Wild Things Are, Love You Forever, Guess How Much I Love You, any of the SkippyJon Jones books, We're Going on a Bear Hunt, On the Night You Were Born...there are so many, I will try to think of some more.

A few of my favorite children's books are:

Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing (Judy Blume)
Matilda (Roald Dahl)
Charlotte's Web (E.B While)
The Babysitters Club book series book #1 is 'Kristy's Great Idea (Ann M Martin)

Oops! I should have asked what age group you were wanting ideas for! Most of these books I read from 2nd grade to Middle School. Anything before that time I would have to think about!

Is it for a girl or boy? If it is for a girl, DD(5) would suggest Olivia or Fancy Nancy. She has loved those since she was 2. For a boy or girl, you can never go wrong with Peter Pan- you can find some really nice books of it, both Disney and non-Disney (DD would tell you to get the Disney version!). DD's absolute favorites currently, are storybooks- books with multiple stories in them. She loves starting at the front of a storybook and reading one a night until the end of the book. She is currently big on Disney's Happily Ever After Stories. For a boy (or girl as DD likes it), Disney's adventure stories might be fun. For a girl, DD would tell you that Cinderella is also a good one. She also has a non-Disney book of fairy tales that she loves.

My favorite from when I was small is no longer in print :sad1: Picasso, the Green Tree Frog by Graham. My sister's favorite was The Bug Club by Erickson, Foster and Gifford. We both still, as adults, know many of the lines from those by heart.

If you are looking for Baby Books for the 0-2 year old range, anything by Sandra Boynton is always a good choice. Those used to make DD laugh and laugh. Moo, Baa La La La; Pajama Dance; and Pookie books (there are a couple of those, I think the dance one was her favorite) were ones she absolutely loved.

If You Give A Mouse A Cookie - my very favorite! The others by that author are good too - If You Give A Pig A Pancake and If You Give A Moose A Muffin, as well as other If You..... so cute and all are books that I enjoyed reading and my kids loved hearing.

Llama, llama red pajama

The Kissing Hand

The Giving Tree

Tiger Can't Sleep

Anything by Sandra Boynton or Dr Seuss

The Giving Tree

Switch on the Night

Jamberry

Ferdinand

Letters from Felix

Love You Forever by Robert Munsch

The Princess and the Wizard (by Julia Donaldson; also The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo's Child are cute too)

The Blue Hippopotamus by Phoebe Gilman (also like The Balloon Tree)

For older children:

Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl

The Twits by Roald Dahl

Junie B Jones books

My dd's favorite book was "Over and Over" by Charlotte Zolotow. In fact just tonight I came across the actual book card that was in the school library book. I asked the librarian for it since my dd took the book out 6 times in about 4 months! It's a lovely book with beautiful illustrations. Made me tear up everytime I would read it to her! I hope it's still available. When my DD graduated from High School I purchased her a copy online! She's now teaching 2nd grade, and it's on her reading shelf at school. :flower3:

For young readers:
Jillian Jiggs, there are a few other books with her
Something from Nothing
Any book by Robert Munch or Dr. Seuss

For older readers:
In Grandma's Attic-short stories, there are two more to the series
Who put that hair in my toothbrush?-Jerry Spinelli

Encyclopedia Brown books-short misteries

The Llama, Llama books
All Sandra Boynton books, I heard she has a new one out

The Rainbow Fish- beautiful illustrations!
Eric Carle books (sometimes they have box sets at Marshalls)
Six by Suess - you can get hardback collections of Suess, there is a 6 book and I think a 12. Also sometimes at Marshalls.
Right now the Kohls Cares for Kids charity books are Clifford books. They also have matching stuffed animals.

Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae, great illustrations too! He writes other books also, but the Giraffe one is my favorite, I think it has a good message.
