When we were there in April 2016, we were told that they would the FP system implemented by the beginning of this year (2017). I do not believe that is the case.

Do we know anything for sure? Did they decide not to do it in California?

Not sure I get your question. They have had fast pass for many years now. If your talking about the talk of changing the FP system to be more like what they use at WDW then to my knowedlge that has not happened yet. It was still the same old fast pass system at the end of 2016 and I havent heard of anything changing lately.

I'm sorry. :( I thought it was self-explanatory since the old system has been in place for a while and the NEW system was not there at the time I visited. :)

I wonder if they scrapped the idea altogether because it does not make sense for California or if they are just not moving fast.

MAXPASS is supposed to be beginning sometime this year.
There was no exact date announced.
Really hopingit begins prior to when I go in late June because I'd like opinions on it and I'd like to give it a try.

i was hoping to be able to use MAXPASS on my trip in 18 days. I guess that is not going to happen. As as WDW veteran I am still a little worried about using the FP system at DL.

When you say "the system was not there at the time I visited," do you mean that the current FP system wasn't operational during your last visit? Or did you mean that some sort of FP+ wasn't in place/operational during your last visit?

The current paper FP system has been online and operational for several years. I do recall in 2016 there being sporadic tests of an updated FP system where you'd scan something. But Disney has previously announced that they had no plans to introduce Magic Bands at Disneyland.

What they ARE doing, however, is this new Max Pass thing, which another poster included a link above to the Disney Parks Blog announcement from earlier this year. Max Pass isn't in place yet and so far, Disney hasn't announced any particular "go live" date for Max Pass.

In the meantime, the legacy paper FP system is still available and operational. What DID change just a day or 2 ago was that the Buzz Lightyear ride FP are no longer disconnected from the rest of the FP system.

Don't be worried. The system is quite a bit easier to get several FPs than WDW. No need to worry about having to wait for all held FP windows to have opened up before you can pull another one. Show FPs (currently only World of Color) also do not count against you like they do at WDW. The two parks are not connected either so you can pull passes at each without waiting for a window to open.

The only "difficult" thing is having to physically go to each ride to get a FP. I highly recommend setting up alerts on your phone for either two hours after you pull a pass or for when the window in the pass opens if less than two hours after pulled. It is very helpful that there is now an official app that will show you what FP window is currently being pulled for a ride. Due to return windows, I've held as many as six FPs at one time.

What do you mean when you say I don't need to wait for all fp windows to open before I pull another one? Isn't there a 2 hour wait? (Wdw expert here)!!

What goooof1 said.

The way legacy FP works is your next FP is available when either the window for the most recently pulled FP opens or after two hours has passed. Whichever occurs first. And the two parks are not connected so you can pull without waiting a FP at both parks.

So if you pull a FP at 9am, but the window starts at 10am, then 10am is when you can next pull a FP.

Or if you pull at 9am and the pass window doesn't open until 5pm, then your next FP can be pulled at 11am.
