I have not been to Disney since this has been introduced. We are staying off site and I have just been able to book my 1st day of fast pass, but do you need tickets or how do the operatives know when your allotted time is. The old way you put in your ticket and it gave you a piece of paper with your time slot on? Sorry to ask for more help

Your park ticket will be a card with an RFID chip in it, this chip identifies you.

When you go to the fastpass queue you will hold your card against a Mickey symbol and it will turn green to say that you have a valid fastpass.

As Happy Tappy states above, you will need your park ticket to enter the ride (unless you plan to purchase magicBands, in which case you can use those). You will scan it once when you enter and then scan again before you ride (basically, where you used to show your paper FPs and where you used to hand them to the ride CM).
