Fast food near HRH

We will be staying at the HRH - is there a strip of fast food places within walking distance? I seem to remember reading about International Drive.

International drive is quite a hike from Universal, though I know some people do attempt it. However, there is a McDonalds on Kirkman Rd, the major road right outside of the parks.

I drive is a bit too far to walk really, a taxi to near the top (across from wet n Wild) where there a loads of cheap places to eat if $4 dollars or if you have a car there is parking at Ponderosa which is a great cheap place to eat.

There is also a cracker barrel not too far from the universal parking lot. I am sorry that I cannot tell you exactly where, maybe someone else familiar with it can.

I don't remember....does the I-Ride trolly go to USF/IOA? That would be a great and cheap way to get to I-Drive if it does.

I-ride runs from Belz Factory Outlet to SeaWorld, does not go to USF (wish it did, though!).

Now you know the reason HRH can get away with charging so much for the mini bar. Where else are you going to go?

Actually if you are looking for an inexpensive lunch or dinner, Pizza Hut will deliver to your room in under 30 minutes. Just call the guest services line for the phone #.

Hey Jon and all,
Every hotel I have ever stayed at has charged a fortune for anything inside their mini bar. That's a rule!
We stopped at a grocery store b-4 checking into the HRH. Tiffany towncar will stop for you. I bought soda and bottled water, and had brought plenty of snack food from home. My kids never wanted anything, except 1 yoo hoo out of the fridge. You just need to out smart that mini fridge!! ;)

I forgot to mention: The Sunset Grill has chicken fingers & fries for kids for $4.25. They also had other selections on kid's menu that were pretty cheap. I had excellent cobb salad that was $9.

If you walk to the front gate of HRH and turn left, this will take you to Vineland Rd. Turn right toward Kirkman Rd.

To your left on Kirkman is a McDonalds. Across Kirkman on Vineland is a Burger King and bit farther along a Wendys. Also on Kirkman, but on the other side of the street from the Universal property, you'll find a Ponderosa (I think), the orlando Ale House, and the Kobe Japanese Steak House.

All of these I consider within walking distance but some people probably wouldn't.

Hope this helps.=

Hey Kelly: I'm one of those people that would definitely NOT think that McDonald's or any of those fast food places on Kirkman are within walking distance of the HRH. ESPECIALLY IN THE FLORIDA SUN!!! I am a person who is physically fit, I do my treadmill every day. I would not drag my kids that far for any fast food restaurant!!

I would approximate Kirkman Road about 1-2 miles from HRH. I know some people can walk it. It may be good to walk it anyway to burn off the calories from the fast food place. :)

Thanks for all the answers to my question.
Someone mentioned fast food places by Wet n Wild
Couldn't we take the flex bus there and walk to the restaurants?

Hey Carol,
That's a pretty good idea. There were lots of "fast-food" places all around Wet n Wild. Take the free shuttle to Wet n Wild, then do some browsing. Just one thing to be aware of, the free shuttle only departs Wet n Wild twice a day, starting at 4:30 p.m.

Okay, okay, so I'm a bit nuts. Then again, my idea of a fun vacation is to hike 50 or 60 miles along Hadrian's Wall like I did last year.

But your point about kids is well taken. It probably wouldn't put you in line for the Mom (or Dad) of the Year Award to drag kids on a trek like that!‡
