I was recently talking to a fast food worker and then checked that company's web site. Are they correct that the fast food industry is the fastest growing industry in the U.S. That thought just depresses me no end.

I heard that it was the prepared dinner category, which would be a small step above fast food.

I wouldn't be surprised if prepared foods is the biggest industry, whether or not it is still growing. Fewer and fewer people cook, unless you consider stuff like microwave pizza and frozen vegetables cooking. We have toll free hot lines for people needing help cooking over the holidays, and yet year after year home kitchens have gotten fancier and fancier with equipment not needed to make a meal. Hmmm.

Cooking shows get ratings, apparently very high ratings considering the increasing number of cooking shows on the air. Yet the ingredients to make things from scratch is not what pays the bills for the supermarket because ever more floor space goes to the deli selling prepared food. So why all that money spent on tools that does not get used to make food? The resident might as well have just saved that money to eat out in the first place. Hmmm.
