Fantasy Room 2007 (Deck 2 in the basement) or Room 7192 very back of ship? Help?!!

We booked a guarantee 11C and got an inside room #2007 (a HA room, Deck 2, all the way forward). Needless to say, we gambled and lost....I was surprised because the ship does not appear to be very full. I can see lots of balconies left (particularly 05D, 05C and 05B's). Last year we booked an 11C and we were upgraded to a balcony! We were hoping for pixie dust again this year. Oh well!:confused3 So, we sail in three weeks (7 night Fantasy, western itinerary) and I am trying to decide if:

1) we should just stay where are (which doesn't thrill me but I could live w/it). We haven't seen a magic porthole yet but that seems to pale in comparison to a balcony!
OR
2) snag an 05E, Room 7192 and pay $400 (but I am concerned about it being the VERY back of the ship....part of that is very appealing given the views and the balcony but I don't know if the vibrations would bother my hubby - it wouldn't me) (The cheapest balcony cabin is about $300 and they are either Deck 5 forward OR the infamous Room 5118)
OR
3) gamble some more and hope I can get a less expensive upgrade at the port given the ship is not very full. This morning there were 24 cabins showing just in Category 5 alone.

So I am looking for opinions. I am pretty frugal and not sure I want to pay $400 on the room. I figure I have already spent a small fortune (to me) so what's a few more hundred dollars (esp when we don't cruise that often) but then I could use that money to pay for souvenirs, pictures, etc) So is it worth it? I know that is a subjective question but just want to hear your opinions.

Aaargh! I am driving myself crazy trying to decide. Please help! Thanks so much in advance. I have learned SO much over the years from the DIS boards! :goodvibes

We LOVED our 5E on the Disney Dream right at the back with a HUGE verandah/balcony. We were on Deck 9.

Next time we have 5E Deck 7 on the Fantasy.

Yes some vibration at docking but boy what a view of Castaway Cay. Plus all you see behind you is ocean and more ocean while you sit on the very spacious deck.

We stayed in 7192 on the Dream and loved it. We had a larger balcony that DH & DS slept on one night after getting loungers. The vibrations worked as white noise for me. It was a little bumpy first and last night, but it was my first cruise. I prefer staying aft. We really enjoyed that room and verandah.

We were just on Deck 2 on the Dream and I LOVED it! From my understanding the Fantasy and Dream are very similar. We were close to Enchanted Garden, and it was so easy to take the steps up to the lobby, and kids clubs. I didn't feel like we were in the basement at all!! Our porthole window was big (not as big as the upper decks though), and I loved that we felt hardly any motion (we were midship though).

We had room 7194 on this last cruise on the Fantasy....and we LOVED this room. The balcony is huge and allowed two full size lounge chairs. It was like having our own private sun deck. The views were amazing both at sea and in each port. The CC stop was stunning from our balcony. My DH and I will request this cabin every time we sail in the future. We did not experience any vibration out of the ordinary.

I say go for it!!!

We stayed in #2004 on the Fantasy MV....we LOVED are location. We had friends in the cabins all around us and just loved the forward area (absolutely never felt like we were in the basement). We were very close to the forward stairs and elevators and was VERY convenient to all things onboard.

We have stayed in that area on the Dream as well. We have been in balconies, oceanviews and insides....our forward Deck 2 location of the Fantasy/Dream were one of our favorite locations (our other if all the way forward on the Fantasy/Dream in the Cat 9D's). there is a laundry room near there as well with no ill effects. The forward location on Deck 2 is not really all that forward if you look at it on a deck plan. If you look at the forward cabins on the upper decks they are much further away from the forward elevators than the forward cabins on Deck 2 which are really just to the right of those cabins (down a small hallway across from 2000 and 2002).

I, personally, do not feel you lost the gamble. I would never book a GTY category that I didn't like in the hopes I would be upgraded. Upgrades are rare, especially from an inside to verandah.

We sailed in 6192 on the Dream and LOVED it. The huge balcony is amazing. We had 2 lounge chairs and 2 regular chairs out there. The movement was not a issue for us at all. We only really felt it leaving port the first night, but seas were really rough outgoing. We used patches and never had any seasickness symptoms.

Our first cruise was on the Dream in 7192, and we loved it so much, we booked the same room on the Fantasy for the 2nd cruise.

For us, it's awesome. Rooms above and below, so no chair noise or club noise. Kids club is just 2 flights down and half a hall up. Easy to get to Cabanas and the MDRs. Aft elevators were always empty when we needed them. Halls are quiet back there...can you tell I'm biased?

Vibrations...meh, I felt them but it wasn't distracting (but boy was it a ride on the October Fantasy following Sandy back to Florida). Mostly the vibrations were felt when backing into port. We were up by then anyway, it might wake up a light sleeper.

Anyway, if it helps, HERE is a link to some photos that I took of the room (sorry the room is messy)

I had stateroom 2007 on the Disney Dream and I also sailed on the Disney Fantasy in a cat 5E. Loved them both for different reasons. Deck 2 is accessible to everything except the pool deck. I never used the elevators on that cruise. As far as the cat 5E's goes, the veranda is incredible! I do not remember having a problem being all the way aft and dealing with vibrations.

You have a hard decision to make. It really just depends on how much you will use the veranda. If you hardly go out there, save your money.

Deck 2 is hardly the "basement" of the ship. There are crew decks below, then the mechanical works.

Don't knock deck 2 until you try it. Seriously. It's so convenient to restaurants, kids' clubs, etc. BUT, for that price on the Fantasy, I would absolutely upgrade. Without hesitation. :)

We absolutely love Deck 2. We have cruised on many ships, Disney and other lines and have always booked our room on Deck 2. It's quiet, a great location, easy to catch the elevator. We had Deck 2 OV on the Fantasy last year and wouldn't have changed it for anything. My MIL had an inside on Deck 2 across the hall from us and she enjoyed it very much with the virtual porthole. Deck 2 is not the basement and we never felt like it. In fact, when we delivered our FE gifts to the upper decks, I felt like I had to walk miles and miles down those hallways. Deck 2 doesn't have a lot of cabins on it, so the traffic is a lot less.

My apologies....I was trying to be funny. ;) Many years ago, we have stayed on Deck 2 but unfortunately (sarcasm again) we have been upgraded a time or two since then to a balcony and now we are spoiled! For our first several cruises we only sailed inside to save money and we never knew what we were missing and had an awesome time...ate the same food, saw the same shows and entertainment as everyone else in the nicer cabins so we didn't care until we ended up in a balcony as an upgrade. I have to say they are pretty nice. I love having a view and hearing the ocean without having to be fully dressed and ready to see the world (and have them see me, I might add!) but we will be fine on Deck 2...just as long as we are on the ship! (By the time we decided to go for the balcony, it was gone).

We sailed the Fantasy MV in cabin 2000 and loved it so much we booked The Dream Cabin 2000 for our 2nd cruise this past April. and loved it too. I'm having a hard time because we are booked on the Magic for January 2014 in a different cabin. Im hoping i wont miss deck 2 and cabin 2000 too much!
enjoy your cruise! :)pixiedust:
