Wow. I know these fireworks are just filler until they get their new show in...but these are disappointing. I think they last about 5 minutes. No one flies, not Tink or Dumbo. I've seen lots of fireworks shows, at Disney World and Land, at 4th of Julys and sporting events.

These were probably the worst I've seen. No wonder we got a prime spot by walking up 5 minutes before they started.

Anyone else have an opinion on them?

Saw them on Friday night; happened to be heading from Adventureland over to Tomorrowland to use our Space Mountain fastpasses right when the show started, so stopped and watched. I don't usually camp out to watch fireworks, so I was incredibly surprised that it was only five minutes with nothing on the castle. I mean fireworks just by themselves are fun, but it was definitely lacking for a Disneyland show. :/

Fantasy In The Sky ran for decades at DL and at MK. It's the original fireworks show. The show has always been short, but it used to have Tinker Bell and a patriotic finale.

In truth, I think it has to do a lot with how much fireworks shows have evolved since Fantasy in the Sky was first developed. We've gotten used to shows like Remember, Believe, Wishes!, HalloWishes, Halloween Screams, etc. so that we now expect all Disney fireworks shows to be of that caliber. Right now, with all the work they're doing on the castle, upgrading the fireworks equipment, etc. they're having to drop down to a bare bones show. If they announced that Fantasy in the Sky was the new show for the foreseeable future, I would be disappointed, but it's just a filler show until the new one debuts later this year. Overall, I'm just glad that they are still doing a fireworks show. They could have easily opted not to have any fireworks until the new show debuts, which would have been more disappointing to me.

I saw the Fantasy in the Sky at WDW in 2002. It was longer than just 4+ minutes and different in music. Plus it had Tink flying. This new/old version at DL for the next few months is just a shell of what I know Fantasy in the Sky was.

We'll be there next month and we're HUGE night time entertainment fans - WDW made us that way with 3 parks having nightly shows all year long. But this trip to DL, we're actually talking about whether we should just push right through the fireworks on Friday night and do more rides. Of course, one problem is that a good number of rides will be down. And really, with a fireworks show of this pathetic caliber, I'd rather go catch WOC....which is also down. And it's no use calling or emailing Disney about it because they won't get back with you :sad2:

Like Figment said about some Disney fans, I expect more - LOTS MORE - from Disney. There's a reason I lay down the money for Disney - Perceived value.

For a fair number of people, the fact that you can go see F! on a nightly basis is a large plus. While F! isn't something that works for your family, it's not as if DLR didn't do anything to try an mitigate the loss of WoC. I think it's important to remember that they did add F! to replace WoC.

In terms of fireworks, my point was that this is just a stop-gap/filler show. They aren't going to put money into developing a show that will only be used temporarily. It just has to get them to the summer, when the new show will debut. The alternative is no fireworks until then...would that be better?

In regards to contacting DLR, I've had pretty good luck getting a response. They normally call me back with a response to my questions or comments. In the case of the ride and show refurbishments, I'm not really sure what they could do...it's not like they can open up additional attractions or shows to replace the things that are down. I suppose they could offer you something, but then that wouldn't be fair to to the other guests that are going at the same time as you.

I guess one point I could make on F! is why don't they have it every night of the year anyway? Yes, I have a DD that shakes at the sight of the dragon (and I'm slowly trying to build up her fortitude), but I've always wondered why F! doesn't run every night like it does at WDW. There aren't any loud fireworks that would disturb the neighborhood, so that's not a problem. It would keep the weekend showings from being such a zoo. Plus it would make DLR more of a worldwide destination instead of a park that seems geared for locals.

As for Disney getting back to me, I'm actually surprised I've only received a voice mail from them. When I called back, I left a message and I never got a call back. I've sent a few emails and haven't seen anything in writing. The silence is what's bothering me the most. Nah, that's not true. ;) It's definitely all the attractions being down. But some legitimate contact/conversation would make me feel better.

Getting back to fireworks, though, I get the whole "placeholder vs nothing" argument. Yes, something is better than nothing. It's just that the placeholder is pretty weak, and people pay the same amount for tickets in Feb as they do in June. Ticket holders expect value for the price they pay. They don't want to pay for something knowing that someone else will pay the same price and get way more. I think that 's the problem of the OP and folks who'll be visiting over the next few months. If fireworks are a major part of a Disney trip (like it is for us), then ill will for a 4 minute barrage is a valid complaint.

Because, in the end, DLR is still a park geared for locals. DLR is a worldwide destination, it just has a larger percent of its visitors that are "local". I don't know why they don't run F! nightly, but my guess is that it's the most expensive of the night time shows to mount, so it's a cost-benefit calculation. The non-summer/non-holiday crowds probably aren't high enough to warrant having F! run nightly, especially when WoC is available (which I bet is a cheaper show because there are no live performers or large prep-crews, nor are there major equipment/set pieces to maintain).

I don't think you'll get anything written back either. I've always received a call back.

I don't know that I agree with this argument. By the extension, you can say that you expect the parks to operate on the same hours in February as June and have the same amount of entertainment, etc. That's not how it is and that's not how it's ever been.

Fireworks are a big part of my trip as well, and I'm going to use this chance to see fireworks from somewhere different (maybe Frontierland or again by Small World) because this time, I won't be missing much by not seeing the castle. It's lemon and lemonade...I'm going to make the best of the situation and I plan to have a good time.

I guess it comes down this this, I am going this spring and I know that there will be ride closures and less evening entertainment offerings, but I accept that and I'm not going to go the parks expecting to have an awful time because of all of these closures. I am not going to focus on only the negatives, because there are still lots of things to do, see, and experience.
