I have 7690 booked for our cruise next spring (2 adults 2 kids). 8188 is also available.

I read the reviews on 8188 and there is a lot of complaints of soot and smell... I would think these two rooms would be the same in that area, but I don't hear that for 7690.

I have read 7690 has the pull down bunk (need that) and no lounge chairs on the verandah. Not sure about 8188.

We have cruised on the Magic and the Wonder - inside staterooms both times. I loved the convenience of Deck 6 aft on the classic ships. Three flights up to the drink station, one flight down to the kids club. (I will have one in the Oceaneer Club most of the trip - she never wants to leave!) I was thinking Deck 8 would be most convenient based on drink station/kids club proximity looking at the deck plans.

Really excited to be going on the Fantasy....and being able to enjoy fireworks, breakfast or a glass of wine on the verandah. By some wild chance, does anyone have experience with BOTH of these rooms that can tell me if I want to switch to 8188 or stick with 7690?

if you look at the DCL site map of the Fantasy you can see that the balcony in 7690 is rounded, where the balcony for 8188 is block shaped. The soot will be the same for both rooms if/when applicable. By the way, you shouldn't watch the fire works from your balcony and I really think you wouldn't see much even if you were out there. I actually prefer deck 7 over all the decks, more on the older ships but still on the new ships also. Aft is a great spot for the elevators though. You can't go wrong with either room in my opinion. The drink station on deck 11 is mid ship but sometimes you can get the drinks in Cabanas. Just my opinion. Happy sailing!

We sailed in 8188 on the Fantasy year before last. There was some soot along the rail and right by the rail on the ground but it never seemed too terrible. Never noticed any smell issues at all except the folks next door who couldn't read when it said no smoking on verandahs. Someone must have complained as they stopped after the first night.

We have sailed in 8188 three times and will be again in 2 months. We've never had any soot or smell problems - as you might guess from the number of times we've stayed 8188, we think it's the best cabin available abs can't imagine staying anywhere else.

We just sailed in 8188 last month and we never had any soot or smell problems. We also had two lounge chairs, two regular chairs and a small table. It's an excellent room.

We had 8188 on the Fantasy Western and definitely had soot. We've had 6188 on the Dream and didn't have the same issues but I wouldn't really call them issues as honestly I expected it based on the cabin location and length of the sailing. I have posted this elsewhere so not sure OP you are reading old posts, however on our sailing on the Fantasy an officer was near our cabin and we struck up a conversation with her. They were power washing the decks and using 8188 to connect the water hoses so we couldn't go in our cabin yet as they were essentially using the deck but it was not a big deal so we just talked to the officer about 10 minutes. She explained when there are two sea days and the ship is traveling longer they have to burn more trash and that is what leads to more soot on certain days. They seem to have their system down and know they need to start washing the decks by day 2 or 3. I had read about the possible soot prior to our sailing so I always made sure I put a towel down on the lounger and had no issues. If you notice you do have soot or it's a concern, you can always tell your cabin steward and he can advise accordingly to have it power washed and/or clean what he/she can as well. Our cabin steward for 8188 did a great job wiping it down every day.

I wouldn't let the soot deter you if you want a far aft cabin and I wouldn't think the soot would be too different between the two cabins you noted.

They are both great cabin choices :)

Both cabins sleep 4, so both have the ceiling bunk.

8188 is dead center aft with a wider and slightly deeper veranda than 7690.

I would chose 8188 given a choice.
