Hello! I’m looking for any thoughts on a Fantasy 5 night (Castaway, Lighthouse, Nassau, sea day) vs. a Wish 4 night (Castaway, lighthouse, sea day). We are a family of 4 with 2 kids under 10. Family activities and kids activities are more of a priority for us over adult spaces. It would be $400 more dollars for the 5 night cruise on the Fantasy, so price is not a huge factor. We haven’t been on either of these ships. Thanks to anyone who is able to share their thoughts!

I'm firmly in the camp of "longer is better". So, 5 nights wins out over 4.

The additional day for $400 does sound like the way to go. But since you mentioned that kids activities are a priority, I will say that just from the open house tours, the kids' club areas on the Wish look to me to be the most awesome of all the ships in the DCL fleet.

I don’t automatically say length of cruise or ship is better. It depends on what fits into your family’s comfort zone and needs for this vacation.

I started with a 3-night, followed by a 4-night on DCL. I have done a 1-night cruise and 25 nights straight on the Disney Magic. They all filled needs and wants.

Yes, 3 nights left us wanting more cruising. But we liked it. If your family is not happy by Day 4, that extra $400 may not buy you that extra happiness.

Does Port Canaveral v. Fort Lauderdale for airport impact your decision? And the proximity of airport to port?

Wish has lots of smaller pools for the family.

Dining: many people feel the Wish’s quick service offerings were an improvement. If nothing else, it is additional variety.

Does anyone have sensory issues? Some dining rooms are louder, more chaotic.

How do you feel about staying at a new Disney resort versus an older one? It would matter to some. That’s sort of Wish v. Fantasy.

Shows (evening entertainment): (not my descriptions. And I would never have described Believe as they do.)
  • Disney Fantasy
    • Frozen: A Musical Spectacular. Lots of puppets and projections, as well as some obligatory fake snow.
    • Disney’s Aladdin. A shortened version of the film story.
    • Disney’s Believe. A jukebox-style show that tells about a daughter’s relationship with her botanist father.
  • Disney Wish
    • Disney Seas the Adventure. Goofy takes the helm of the ship and gentle mayhem ensues.
    • The Little Mermaid. As if a community theater troupe put on a version of the live-action film.

We have been on all 5 ships and our favorite is the one we are on at the time. In the OP's case I'd go with the longer cruise unless there was a desire to see a particular port or be on a particular ship.

Either will be choice will be great. My kids and I both prefer the Wish and the kids clubs are spectacular. An extra day is an extra day though and the Fantasy is a fine ship. Maybe see if any IP stands out. We are Star Wars fans so some of the Wish theming appealed to us. We liked the dinner shows but they are not for everyone. Singing let it go at dinner did NOT appeal to my dad who didn't know or like Frozen. My DD belted it out.....

For that price difference, I'd take the 5 night on the Fantasy. 400 dollars really isn't that huge a price difference.

Although my oldest did love the Wish kids club so I worry that anything else will be subpar for her 😂
