Fantasmic vs Star Wars Galactic Spectacular

We have our first disneyworld trip coming up in September! We will only have one HS day and are trying to decide if we should plan to see Fantasmic or Star Wars. They're scheduled at 8 and 830 so I don't think we can do both. We have never been to disneyworld but we have seen the Fantasmic show at Disneyland several times.

What do you guys prefer/recommend?

Just me and my wife. We like Star Wars, wouldn't say we're super fans or anything, but we do enjoy the movies and the Star Wars themed things at the park.

Star Wars was AMAZING. We skipped F! Because we’ve seen it before and it’s not nearly as good as the one at DL, and did Star Wars instead. In-credible. I’ve actually never watched any of the movies lol, but my husband and FIL and kids all have and we all equally enjoyed it!

Star Wars you're basically standing in a big group similar to watching HEA at MK with the exception of less is in the way at DHS.

A pro to Star Wars is that they will shoot off fireworks even in rain.

When we were in WDW this past September one of the only times it rained was during the night at DHS. Fantasmic! got cancelled but they were funneling people over to Star Wars because the lightning off in the distance from the storm that had just passed right over DHS and rain in the area (it had stopped raining by the time the Star Wars show started) still allowed the show to go on.

For someone like me who is shorter it was something of a challenge to find a good spot especially as it was late getting there due to Fantasmic! being cancelled but it was a few days after Irma so the crowds weren't crazy.

If you've already seen Fantasmic! at DLR that would lean me towards Star Wars. A few of the DISers in my area that I meet with have convinced me that the version at DLR is superior to WDW's version anyways (that's their opinions lol though it is multiple people saying that).

Thanks for the responses! We are pretty interested in the Star Wars Dessert Party and with the reviews of SWGS, I think we're sold! Bummer that we'll have to miss Fantasmic, but it sounds like the one we've seen several times at DL is better anyway lol.

If you’ve seen DL then yeah for sure! We are DL AP’s and have seen it dozens of times. When we first saw the WDW one we were kind of disappointed. Just not the same wow factor.

We're also DL AP's so we are very familiar with Fantasmic at DL. I think I'm sold on Star Wars now!

I have seen Fantasmic both at WDW and Disneyland, and maybe I'm the only one, but I love the WDW one! I was disappointed with the Disneyland one. Only three villains, references to less movies (the WDW version has that bubble scene featuring so many classic Disney films!), and no Pocahontas/John Smith scene. Maybe it depends on which one you see first? The Pocahontas scene is very important to me as it proves that even Mickey Mouse wants Pocahontas to be with John Smith instead of John Rolfe.

But I guess if you have seen at least one version of Fantasmic, you'd get more of a thrill out of the all-new-to-you Star Wars spectacular. I thought it was excellent, too. At one point, I felt like a giant spaceship was flying right over me!
