Anybody wear these to the parks?

I'm 21, and yes, I am one of those girls where "everyday is a fashion show", but I HATE being uncomfortable carrying around a backpack.. Ick. We usually carry our cell phones, camera, water bottle, chapsticks, wallets, car keys and some snacks..

I'm very much contemplating a fanny pack...

Anyone else wear one?

I live in the mountains in Colorado and hike several times a week...with a fanny pack/water bottle holder. It is natural for us to wear fanny packs at Disney parks. I read from others that it is fashion faux pax, but for the life of me I cannot figure out why. And truly do not care. Back packs are too heavy, hot, and inconvenient for us. We bring along water bottles, snacks and cameras. Sometimes a few bagels.

For us fanny packs are the only way to go. Heck, I wore a fanny pack at Disneyland Paris. I was probably the only one wearing one in such a fashionable city but I loved having my hands free and a place to put my stuff. :)

Yes, I wear a waist pack to the park. I can put my wallet, keys, cell phone, camera, sun glasses, antibacterial wipes, kleenex, lip balm, etc. It is great because it is in front of me and my hands are free. The best thing is I have no shoulder pain from carrying a backpack or messenger bag all day.

Thanks guys! :goodvibes

See, that's one thing that is forcing me more to wearing a waste pack. I have some shoulder pain when I don't sit up straight or have a supportive back chair, and wearing a backpack or a purse across my chest KILLS my shoulders. Last trip I had my purse across my chest and I could not stand the pain in my shoulders from it. Backpacks do the same thing. I bought a smaller backpack for this trip, but trying it on I can already tell the straps are not supportive enough. And the backpacks that do have a lot of support are way too big than what I want to carry around the park...

They have waste packs at Wal-Mart and Target I think I'll go check out this week. Honestly, I would rather be comfortable than look cute at DLR anyways. :rolleyes1

DH carries the back pack.

I carry a waist pack (learned not to call it a fanny pack when we went to England! :scared1: ). But I don't think of it as that. I think of it as my small camera bag that I can wear around my waist and hold other stuff in, too.

And besides, even the stars use them!

I have had a dedicated Mickey Mouse fanny pack that is solely used for DL trips much to the dismay of my family. My DH hates it, he thinks it's ugly, tacky and not at all in fashion!!! But nothing beats it. It is the perfect thing for DL - holds your money, cell phone, camera, and does not ever need to be bothered with when getting on and off rides. I swear by my fanny pack!

So, if you want to wear the fanny pack - wear it! I'm going to be wearing mine and don't give a hoot what anyone (including my family) has to say about it except I will be replacing the one I have with the new Disney logo one on Disneyshopping.com.

Use one - they are great for travelling anywhere, if you want to keep your hands free. As for the fashion compromise...I always think that its okay, they'll never see me again anyway!

Hey JD, looks like we are going to be in DL at the same time. We'll have to try for a DISmeet!

for the Ladies' Only trip I bought a Baggalini wallet that can be converted to be either be a 'waist pack' (love that term) or can be worn cross-shoulder or as a regular purse--I really like it alot. When I'm in the parks I use it at the waist, then if go out to dinner can use as a purse or cross-shoulder.

I have a fanny pack that I purchased at DL about 6 years ago. I LOVE it! It's not too big but fits my important stuff in it. I only wear it to the parks.
We also still have a stroller for our little guy so any snacks, water, or unimportant stuff can stay in the stroller.

We all wore fanny packs, including the kids. They picked out some snacks to carry in theirs, along with ID clipped to the side in case they got lost, lip balm, gum, etc. That helped a lot in lines when they got hungry-- they had their own source of energy snacks to use when they wanted, and they liked that freedom.

I kept my wallet in my front pocket, though, just for security's sake-- wanted it separate from everything else.

Scrapper, great picture! What a beautiful family you have. And you look much more stylish with your slim black "camera case" than I looked with my waist pack, which came from REI or someplace like that.

I have issues with fanny packs, so I have a smaller messenger style bag I use.

Oh, thank you, but that's not me!!!!

That's my DH and my oldest DD - the woman is Ming Na - the voice of Mulan.

My camera bag is a bit bulkier than that, but it doesn't look like a typical waist pack.

I can't do the waist pack , I take a camera bag and put my stuff in one of the pockets then DH and I can take turns carrying it.

Ming Na has been/was on ER for many years and I was thinking how much you looked like her!

LOL!

I'm about as opposite as you can get from her!

Here is DH (how he normally looks when he isn't growing a beard for a role in an upcoming play) and me after a rainy day in England wearing a hat all day. We're in our seats waiting for Lion King to start!!!

ScrapperKimmyD-You still have a beautiful family, just from 2 different pix!

OP-I had the same issue last year about the "fanny pack" thing. I was 24 at the time (still young, just not as young as you are), and was so worried about looking like a "dork". So I found at BebeSport a very cute "belt bag", cute, and stylish! They are small, generally, but they come in different colors, styles, # of pockets etc. There is no room for a water bottle though. The one I bought for DL last year was gray and had 2 pockets, 1 pocket was just for my camera, the other had my cell, gum, money, and lip balm. I went back a few months ago and got another with 2 pockets (pink, white, and silver) and 1 with 1 larger pocket (red). I would like to get a black one next time!

HTH!

LOL Scrapper, I assumed too much with your first picture you posted! Ming Na is gorgeous, of course (I love her voice), and I'd kind of like to know where SHE got her waist pack! Very cool that you got to meet her and get a picture.

However, you are still a beautiful family!

This is good info. I have to go check out BebeSport now! :thumbsup2

In Australia we call them 'bum bags' I won't tell you what 'fanny' means here!:rotfl:

So you can buy them in DL??? I would love something a little sleek and stylish if possible...

Ozvisitor - I've been trawling ebay (Aus.) since starting to read this thread, and there are some pretty nifty all waterproof bum bags it would seem. As to how waterproof they actually are, I'm not too sure, but I think we may invest in one anyway.

I'm not sure there's such a thing as "sleek and stylish bum bag" ;)
