fanny pack/crossbody purse for 9 yr old girl?

Hi,

Any recommendations for either a fanny pack or a small crossbody purse for a 9 year old girl that will fit a cellphone and a water bottle? I definitely want my DD to carry a cellphone with her in case we get separated and I’d like for her to carry her own water bottle but I need to find something that she’s not likely to take off and put next to her and then forget about it when she walks away. She has a tendency to do that with her purses/shoulder bags and backpacks. A fanny pack would probably the safest bet since she’s not likely to remove it but I don’t know of any that can hold a water bottle (and still be small enough to be suitable for a 9 year old)

FWIW, I'll be carrying a backpack so I could hold her water bottle for her, if needed, but I'd like her to start being more responsible for her own stuff.

This is what I got DD9 for our trip in a few weeks. It won't hold a water bottle, but it does go across her body so she shouldn't lose it and it's a nice size for her.

mom2alix, that is SUPER cute! I'm going to have to order one for my dd's.

HLDisney, It might be best for her not keep her water bottle in the bag, if she doesn't put the top back on good and it leaks it could mess up the phone, even the sweat from the bottle might. Just a thought.

They do sell water bottle straps at WDW they hook on the lid of the bottle. They are nice to have DH uses one.

There are water bottle carribeaners too. They are about $6 and they have a rubberized neck (with Mickey ears) that holds a regular water or soda bottle and then you can clip it to the strap of her purse.

I agree you don't want the water bottle to sweat on the phone.

I got DD and myself a Vera Bradley Travel Belt Bag. Mine is the Deco Daisy and hers is the Viva la Vera. I like that they aren't Disney themed but still fun. We wanted something that we could take to Universal too and not have to use the lockers. I'm carrying a camera and cell in mine and DD will have her camera and small autograph book. Won't carry a water bottle but you could clip one on without a problem. VB had a sale on these several weeks ago for $14.99. They are running $22.99 now though. My experience was that it was really hard to find a fanny pack that worked with a nine year old waist and hips - so if you order from the internet, make sure you check how small you can make the waist. We used a purse from Target that went across body - it wouldn't hold a water bottle though - but I carry the water bottles and we share.

That bag is too cute! I'll have to order one for my DD along with some other cute things I saw.

My DD does have the mini hipster. She can put her phone, camera, and wallet in there and still has room. I carry the regular hipster. It is big enough to hold my 2 cameras and all the other things I normally carry. It can hold a water bottle and fits nicley to the body. It may be a little big for your DD though. Check out Vera Bradley. They have some good crossbody bags and even fanny pack type bags. They have some good sales and it's 5.95 shipping at the moment.

Thanks, everyone! That's a very good point about the water bottle with the cellphone. Guess I'll carry her water bottle for now

She does have a VB mini hipster so maybe I'll just have her carry that. Although the Little Missmatched one is very cute I like the VB travel belt bag, too. If it goes on sale before our trip, I may get it for myself!

There's two sizes of fanny packs available at disney for sale. Both are black. The bigger one should fit the water bottle and a lot more. It has 2011 on it with a whole bunch of characters. I bought both fanny packs for a friend as a souvenir. He said the bigger fanny pack is the longest lasting fanny pack he's ever had lol

It might be a little too small. DD's glasses case won't fit. It also depends on how big your camera is. I just tried and my iphone fits easily. I have a charging case for it, so it's thicker than just the iPhone. If you have a really small camera, it might work. Standard size camera would be too big.

I have a Vera Bradley mini-hipster that I'll be carrying on our trip. For what you want to carry that might be a better size. I can fit all the items on your list plus a small pack of wipes.

I had custom redesigned bags made for dn our last trip. I had purchased two vera bags and had a local seamstress turn them into little back packs. They were super cute but they grew out of them way to fast. Personally I think vera has many new styles that would be really nice for a smaller body fram. They have a cute cross body patchwork bag that is bigger then the small cross body but much smaller then the old mail bag.
