Hubby and I will be doing a trip sans kid in June to celebrate our 15th anniversary. I have booked LeC because we both loved it and figured that we would let that serve as our Anniversary Meal since we are both picky eaters and don't usually do 'fancy' restaurants (to us LeC is fancy...).

Anyway, when I got home from work today, he asked if he would need to pack his suit for our anniversary dinner. We talked a bit and he wants to do a fancy dinner (not lunch) for our anniversary. He said that he would trust my judgement in regards to what there is to eat that he would like (he digs burgers and chicken nuggets) and mentioned CRT.

I scored a reservation for Saturday 6/4 at 9:30 and booked it right away, but now that I am reading reviews of it, I am thinking that if I am going to plunk down $150, it should be spectacular. So now, I am thinking of cancelling that ADR and finding something else.

So, DIS, I need your help. I am looking for a restaurant that is not frou-frou (Cali Grill and V&A is too much for us), but will have 'simple' dishes in a romantic setting. Yachtsman's and Captain's Grille came to mind when we were talking, as did Turf Club (we are staying at SSR). We would prefer to dine at a resort or DTD so that we don't have to walk around a park all dressed up.

Please, bring on the suggestions!
(oh, and we will probably get a TiW card, but not the Dining Plan since we have APs).

Thanks!!!!!!

BlueZoo at the Dolphin, or Flying Fish at the Boardwalk. These restaurants are worthy of a special Anniversary dinner, IMO. :)

"Fancy . . . Meal for Picky Eaters" = Oxymoron ? :)
I know, doesn't it suck! :rotfl2:

Artists Point is very good!! Also, have you checked out Citrico's?
I've heard good reviews of AP, I'll add that to the list. I'll also have to check the menu for Citrico's. Thanks!

Hubby is not a big fish guy, so I tend to veer away from them. I seem to remember that there is something at FF he would eat, is there steak?

Yachtsman's Steakhouse at YC?

I'm a very picky eater (no foods mixed together, sauce on the side--I'll try it, but I don't want it on my food in advance in case I don't like it! *LOL*), and I have had very good experiences there. I also like to control the seasoning on my food--not fond of anything too *ahem* fragrant, shall we say?

It certainly isn't in the same class as Ruth's Chris or Morton's, but I like what I have eaten there. :)

It's also a signature restaurant, so you can wear anything from business casual on up to dressy.

I think YSH would be a good pick. In terms of the picky issue, when we ate there our server said we could pick any side we wanted with our steak - didn't have to be the one that was listed on the menu so that's something to keep in mind.

What about Shula's? Artist point or maybe even the wave which isn't signature but has great menu?

Congratulations on the anniversary!

I'll put in another vote for Yachtsman. We celebrated our anniversary there. We were somewhat dressed up and did not feel the least bit out of place there. The service & food were wonderful!

We tried Artist Point the first year and love it. And I am a very picky eater me and DH loved the buffalo (so tender) but they also have steak. We will eventually get to eat here again but can only fit in one 2 TS meal per trip and like to try new restaurants on our trips. It was a beautifully setting since it was at the WL.

Yachtsman!!!!

((but you should go to Captain's Grille sometime in the week too :goodvibes))

my first thought when I read the thread title was California Grill - my DW and I had our "date night" dinner there during our last trip and it was wonderful

To us it didn't seem "frau-frau" at all - but we are fairly adventurous eaters so we might not be a good judge at that. But I certainly wouldn't put Cali-Grill in the same class as V&A

Other places that I have seen recommended as "romantic" and should be fairly tame are:
- Yachtsmen
- The Wave
- Citricos
- San Angel Inn (not sure how you are with Mexican)
- Il Mulino
- Shulas (probably not romantic, but grown up at least ;) )

We are trying the Yachtman for the first time this trip so I cannot comment on that from experience but it sounds like it may work for you.

We absolutely loved but Artist Point and Citricos although Citricos was a bit loud thus taking away the romance angle.

We also really enjoyed Il Mulino at the Swan ... that may be something to consider if you enjoy italian. We had a truly great meal there last Christmas.

Any of these:
Yachtsman
Citricos
Narcoossees (it seems like it wouldn't be hard to find something there, plus I'd time it for around Wishes!)

Me too!

Wow, that is great to know! While I am still more 'adventurous' then the rest of my family, I'm still pretty picky, so this will help a lot.

Congratulations on the anniversary!

Thanks! I can't believe it's been this long! Sometimes, when I am at work, or paying bills, or doing other 'normal mom/wife' stuff, I feel like I'm playing house and it's not real. Then the pasta boils over and I have to come back to reality :rotfl2:

After looking at everyone's suggestions, I have narrowed it to Yachtsmans, Captain's Grille, Narcoossee's, Fulton's or Turf Club. Leaning heavily towards YS though! (Can I use TiW for YS?)

thanks everyone for your help - I'm off to the Food Porn to get pix :cool1:

I MUST recommend the Flying Fish! My husband and I had our anniversary dinner there. He had steak and I had the short ribs (no sea food-although we do enjoy fish). This was the best meal I have EVER had...EVER!
