We spent the morning relaxing by the pool and I am so glad that we did, as this would probably be the last chance we got to do so, before the cold spell came along, we read our books and swam, and as it got past twelve Ian popped back to the room for some beer:thumbsup2

You will have to forgive me I have absolutely no recollection what we had for lunch, but I am sure it must have been something from Artist Pallette, as we spent much of the day there at the pool.

We headed to the Magic Kingdom at about four o clock, tonight they were previewing Fantasy In the Sky (the New Years Eve Fireworks) and the park was open until 1.00am, on top of this it was Extra Magic Hours which meant the park would be open until 4.00am, I thought there was no way we would see it through till then, and expected to maybe last until 1.00am.

We did a couple of rides before our dinner reservation at Tonys, this was a new restaurant for us, but I had booked knowing we would be in the park for the fireworks etc. Despite the bad reviews that it gets, we had a really nice time here, I had the soup of the day and Ian had the tomato and mozzarella salad, we both had the spaghetti and meatballs they were very good. There wasn't a choice offered for dessert, everyone got the sampler which again was lovely. I loved the atmosphere at the restaurant, probably because Lady and The Tramp is one of my favourite films, it was great to see the artwork that they have in here, overall we had a great time.

Wishes was next, it was still the Christmas version, which was beautiful, we then found a spot for SpectroMagic which was as lovely as ever, we also caught the show on the Castle Forecourt.

The park was starting to get packed, packed, packed, all the people coming to see Fantasy In The Sky, the front of the castle was mobbed, it was really strange, everyone was sat to watch the fireworks, it was just a sea of people sat in front of the castle, so we joined them. I can honestly say that I have never seen anything like these fireworks in my life, they were awesome, breathtaking, amazing, they even did the New Year countdown, before even more fireworks, I am so pleased that we got to see this, and it is definately in the plans for next year.

he park seemed to empty after the fireworks, so we took advantage and rode the rides like troopers, Big Thunder Mountain and Jungle Cruise in the dark, we elways enjoy these two rides better when its dark, we rode all of our favourites and before we knew it, it was nearly three o clock in the morning.
We decided to call it a night but then spotted Mickey and Minnie behind the castle and it would have been rude to ignore them, so we stop for a piccie, while we are in the queue there is a bit of fuss going on near the castle, and the Photopass lady who is taking the Mickey pictures disappears over there, we then spot what is happening, there is a man on one knee proposing, I don't know where they came from but they are soon surrounded by The Dream People and are then taken off to near Sir Mickeys, I am sure they got some sort of good prize, Ian reckons it was all a fix, and that the man waited until he saw a dream person before dropping to one knee, he's not bitter about never having one a prize honest:rotfl2:

We stop to get more pictures along main street, and get back to Saratoga at about 4.20, it was an amazing night, I never thought I would get to be in the MK at that time, we would definitely do it again.

Great report!

My DH is exactly the same always cynical (sp).

Everything is fake, it used to do my head in but now i tend not to listen lol :rotfl:

I had no idea the Magic Kingdom (or any Disney park) was ever open until four in the morning. Great photos with Mickey and Minnie and a Good Job to you for riding so many rides when lesser people were sound asleep. Again, your stamina impresses me, but I think you were absolutely right to take advantage of this rare opportunity.

Also wanted to say, I vote with you about Tony's being a lovely place for a meal in MK. I've read some reports from disappointed diners, but I've always enjoyed it. For years it's been my favorite MK restaurant and maybe that explains it--it's an old time, all time favorite. Just wish they still served those wonderful farmers breakfasts.

The fireworks sound awesome!!! We are definitely thinking of a Christmas/New year trip in 2010 and your reports are an inspiration, Jules... And I've always had a soft spot for Tony's - it was the first WDW restaurant we ever ate in waaay back in '92 and it has a warm fuzzy place in our hearts...

good work on staying till four in the morning.

So am I counting correct today was the 30th? What time were the 2 sets of fireworks?

Well done on staying at MK so long :cool1:

Oh wow, what a magical day. The latest we have been in MK was around 1 am, and that was amazing - I would love to be there as late as you! Tony's sounds really good, this is the second good report I have read in as many weeks, definitely considering this one. The fireworks sound incredible, and I had a little tear at the Spectro photos because that is my absolute favourite parade :lovestruc
