So I read this book and it's called Lock and Key and it was amazing but pretty sad.
The girl had an assignment and it was to see what family means to you.

What does family mean to you?


To me, family is the few people who are left standing, defending you even though it's the last thing anyone else wants to do. Family is the people who are there whether you like it or not but they'd much rather be helping you than watching you get hurt.

To me family are the people that are there for you no matter what. They'll never tell your secrets, stab you in the back, etc. They're better than best friends. Friends are for now, family is forever. They'll love you no matter what and will help you throughout your life. That's what fam[ily] means to me

There's a song called "Find Out Who Your Friends Are" by Tracy Byrd and that's what family is to me. It's that group of people who no matter how far away you are, they're willing to go help you. They'll drop everything even if it's 2 in the morning and go help you. They're the ones that will pick you up when you fall. Actually, I think what I have on my AIM profile says it all for me.

F r i e n d s are people that are a l w a y s around when you need them. They're the ones that p i c k y o u b a c k u p when you trip up the stairs. They're the ones that l o a n y o u l u n c h m o n e y because you forgot yours. They're the ones that l e t y o u c r y o n t h e i r s h o u l d e r because you just broke up with a really awesome person. They're the ones that will h o l d y o u r h a n d when you need support. They're the people that m a k e y o u s m i l e after you fail a test. They're that special breed that m a k e y o u f e e l l o v e d.

Each piece that's coloured can be taken out of the main piece and turned into it's own sentence using the first word "Friends". Considering that my friends are my family, this is what I see family as.

To me, family is my support system. The ones that are always there, going to give me advice or a hug when I need it most. We may not always get along, but there's that special understanding that you're flesh and blood. There's a sense of loyalty in that, too. There's undying loyalty towards eachother. Their the ones that you can truly be yourself around, running around and singing in your ancestors language, and you can laugh with them too. You share stories and poke fun at eachother, but it's all out of love. Family accepts you for who you are, because you're a part of eachother. Family is also about tradition, there's tradition that you'd never break because you're with them, and it brings you together. Family is what you have when the rest of the world is getting at you.

My family is my life.
