Tuesday 18th Going home today. We were up early today, finished the last of the packing and wheeled the (by now) 6 cases out to the car. Good job we had a people mover , a short drive to DTD to the virgin check in. We arrive just after 8.30. Said to DS if there is a queue dont worry we will not be to long as there is a seperate queue for PE. When we got there lo and behold no queue only the virgin staff looking and feeling rather cold. Bags weighed and checked in no problem. Although the luggage allownce is 32kg DW thought we should keep an eye on our weights as we were connecting at LHR to Newcastle and we werent sure whether we would be allowed the same as virgin she had the forethought to buy some luggage scales (from QVC) and all was well.:yay:
We were soon on our way back to POR for our last breakfast and a cup of coffee before going to Epcot. DW and I always go to epcot on our very last day its a bit of a tradition now.As we enter the park and pass Spaceship Earth I remark how glad I was that we had had a sneak preview of the ride a few days ago ( forgot to put that in my report must be my age or something)
DDIL loved that ride.Still closed today but at least DS and DDIL have seen it. We strolled through to Test Track and Mission Space before heading back to the Land. The wait for Soarin was already over an hour and the fastpass return was to close to our lunch ressie so we skipped that and walked through the World Showcase and just stopped at whatever took our eye. We kept seeing the same CM who for some reason I was convinced was part of the Dream Team, and I thought we might get some fastpass lanyards, but I think he may of thought we were stalking him so we beat a hasty retreat and decided to go for lunch.
We had booked lunch at the San Angel Inn in Mexico, the darkest restaraunt in the world. I had left my reading glasses in the car and had trouble reading the menu but managed to order something quite tasty. We all enjoyed this, for some reason DW and I hadn't eaten there before but we will again. There was time for a slow walk back to the exit, stopping off to play the " try to find our 3 leave a legacy tiles game" :rotfl2: before exiting one last time,a last look at the Epcot icon then out to the car park.
The car's low fuel warning light had come on yesterday and I was working out if I would get to the airport on the fumes that were left, but decided I had better put a gallon in. An easy drive back to the airport, dropped off the car and walked to the area by the Hyatt,we always wait here and people watch before going through security. We got talking to a real character
who called himself a "real redneck hillbilly" he was great to talk to and the time soon passed and it was time to say goodbye and go airside.
In the departure lounge I could see that this flight was not going to be full, only a third full the cabin crew later told me.
We boarded the plane and made our way upstairs to our usual seats 74A and C, and settled ourselves in DS and DDIL were sitting in front of us, "glass of champagne madam? what about you sir?" music to my ears.We pushed off and left on time the captain promising us a flight time of 8hours 30 minutes and a smooth flight. He had been telling jokes in his pre-flight info, the cabin crew were very good, serving drinks then dinner more drinks then the cabin lights were dimmed, though I didn't take the hint and had a couple more glasses of wine.DW settled down and half dozed,DDIL slept and DS dozed a bit.
About halfway home we started meeting turbulence and then it was bumpy for the next 3 hours, almost causing me to spill my wine.DW raised an eyebrow as breakfast came around but she didnt want anything, just a cup of tea. I asked her if she had felt a bump during the flight, she said it was the worst we had ever had. After we had landed the captain appologised for the unexpected turbulence, his parting comment was " You've been to Sea World you've been to Disneyworld welcome back to the real world":rotfl2:
We got through immigration and had just picked up our suitcases off the carousel when the fire alarm went.Great. The announcement said it had been activated in another part of the airport and we were to stay where we were, but no one else did, so we didn't. We got outside and it was cold, good job I told DW not to pack the jumpers :rolleyes1 We found the bus station and made the transfer to Heathrow for our flight back to Newcastle. We couldnt check in as we arrived to early so we went for breakfast in the Cafe Rouge and then went to check in. The girl at the check in desk knew we had flown from Orlando and she checked in all our luggage with no problems.
Our flight wasn't until 4pm but it was delayed and it was after 5pm when we left. arriving at Newcastle at 6pm a long long long day. A taxi home and that was it for this year roll on SEPTEMBER !!!!!!!!
