My family and I (actually my DW told me I could buy a new tent) are in the market for a new tent. I was wandering if any of you have or had any experience with the new Instant Tent by Coleman? Or do you have any suggestions on a great family tent?

Thanks!

I've looked at that tent as well, and decided to pass on it. The setting up the tent is great, but I am concerned about not having a ventilated roof and no rainfly. The way the tent is shaped, and I read a lot of reviews to this effect, if it rains, the water will run right down the sides and into the windows. So, if it is warm out and it is raining you have to zip up all the windows and now their is no ventilation, so it probably will get humid inside the tent and be uncomfortable. Every tent I owned was set up with a ventilated roof, especially one that holds at least 8 people. I think Coleman had a great idea behind the Instant Tent, but I think that 2 more minutes to put on a rain fly would make the tent better.
I have been looking around as well and I think I am going to buy a tent by a company called Gigatent. They have a few different family tents and are in the same ball park pricing wise as Coleman.
If you want more reviews on the Instant Tent, try Amazon, they are usually good for reviews.

Best Regards,
Norm

Thanks Norm that was my issue as well, if I don't have ceiling ventilation it is not worth it to me. I will check out Gigatent and see what I can find. Again thanks for your input Norm and Happy Camping

Not an expert here - I'm only on my second tent. The first was an Ozark trail 3-in-1. It leaked.

At the recomendation of a friend who is a seasoned camper, I started looking at the Eureka tents. I wanted something that I could set up by myself (it's just the kids and I). And something that would be roomy, well ventilated, and last for years.

I ended up with the Eureka N-ergy 13x10. Love love love this tent!! I can post some pics if you are interested.

Pinkee77 that would be great to see some pics of your tent!
Pixiecamper thanks for the links!

I have had a few large tents over the years. The only one I didn't like was a big dome tent. It was too hard to set up. I like cabin style tents. The rigid steel poles are easier to set up. Plus a cabin style is much more roomy with its vertical walls. I just bought a new Coleman Max 9x13. The walls are very vertical. It has huge ventilation including the rain fly covered roof. It has the tub floor and all the other goodies to keep it leak proof. You must have a tub floor at the Fort. The sand box where the tent is at can hold water in heavy rain and water can seep in through the seams unless you have a tub floor. Check out the Coleman Max at walmart.com. It's $160 and the reviews on it are excellent. I think it's a bargan for a well designed tent. One more thing, if you think you may want to use a small ac be sure the tent has a 2nd door where you can rig it up. my tent does and I will. Have a blessed day and happy camping.
