Looking to book a family suite to sleeps 6 at one of the Disney Resorts after the xmas holidays. We have 3 children and 1 senior.
Anyone has had good or bad experiences, any suggestions which resort is better value for your money?
Is it a better option at to renting two rooms?

The suites are located at All Star Music in the Calypso or Jazz Buildings. In your case it may be cheaper to book connecting or side by side rooms. The oldest child could bunk in with the senior in one room if he/she is old enough and the other two with the parents. We have booked one of the suites at ASMU for December 08 before we move over to our home resort at AKV. We decided to go that route because it has a small kitchenette and a seperate sleeping space for the parents...a real bedroom:) If you really would like the kitchenette and bedroom for you and dh try booking a suite.
It will not provide much privacy for the senior however. That is where a standard room may be better in your case. You can check out the link for rates on the standard room and suites. HTH:goodvibes

You can also try renting a 2 bedroom unit from timeshare (DVC) owners.

After XMas, I assume January, that's the cheapest season to go. A 2 bedroom unit (will full kitchen and laundry) would typically run 243 "points" for DVC owners. The going rate is about $10 per point, so that would be about $2,430 for accomodations. I'm sure you can get cheaper accomodations, but the units are really nice (full kitchen saves on food costs) and located "on" the property.

If you're only staying a Sunday night to a Thursday night, it's only 135 "points", or about $1,350.

How much are side by side regular hotel rooms for low season January?

Best "bang for your buck" would be renting DVC points, preferrably from a Canadian DVC member. There is some trust involved, but seeing that 2BRs can go for $530/night at OKW during value season, you can see the savings you can get.. plus 1,300sq ft of space!

there is also the option of a cabin.. they are beautiful and has a separate sleeping area for 2 adults.
I got the cabins (with discount code) for 153 a night in December.

I agree that 2 room or DVC might be better.

I heard the suites are nice but expensive compared to what you would get by renting DVC and staying at a DVC resort. I like the All-Stars but I know they can be crowded for buses etc.

We are DVC members and though economical, renting DVC points can be risky. The member renting the points is in complete control of your reservation. You should go to the DVC board and click on the rent/trade forum. Read the sticky's completely if considering renting points. The suites are expensive but can be a bit cheaper than connecting rooms. I loved the family suite. We have three kids so we there were five of us in the suite. My Dad came with us and booked his own basic room. It was right beside ours (not connecting but ajoining). I'm so glad we didn't have him stay in the room with us. There would have been no down time for him. I needed him fresh each morning to help out with the kids. So no I don't think it would work for your situation.

The suites are so popular that it is common to find them NOT involved in a discount offer. When we went my Dad was given a 20% discount on his room but it was not applicable to our suite.

The cabins wouldn't offer much down time for your senior either.

I would rent two rooms. Maybe POR with a trundle and a regular room or go for the suite plus a regular room. If you are like me you want your senior to have as much get up and go- and provide an extra parenting hand so you need to provide a quiet rest space for them.
