Well what are the chances of me getting a studio at BCV this late in the game? We have a two bdrm at BCV from 07/24-07/30. Did I mention that I had planned this trip from the beginning last year.?! Did I mention that. Well, my parents are going, dh, dd (1), dd(2) and db. Late spring my dad said they might not go due to work, I thought that's fine, I guess. Well, two weeks ago I pressed him and he said they might go, it depended. I told them they were going, because when I was planning the trip, I took into consideration when they could get off work. Because I, in my right mind would never go in the heat of July, no offense to anyone else, but I don't do well in the heat. With my nagging they are going.
During this time, my mom says that my aunt and uncle might come down to visit them. In my gut I have that feeling, they are going to come down during my vacation time. Well, guess what, mom just talked to aunt on Friday and they are coming down, 07/24-08/01!!! Mom said they had put in for vacation a while ago, but when mom was asking they didn't really nail down a time frame. When were they going to call to tell my mom? A week before they were going to come down here to visit or from my parent's driveway? Sheesh! DH is so sweet, he asked me if we had enough points to reserve a room for them too. We have to borrow and that'll empty all of next year's points, but darn it WE ARE GOING TO DISNEYWORLD!! So first thing tomorrow morning I will be calling in and see what's available. Now I understand what everyone was talking about when they were planning family trips. Sorry I had to vent and ask for some pixie dust.

You might explain to MS about the changing family gathering and see what they can suggest to help you out. We have gotten reservations in the summer on very short notice. Last summer I did a surprise 25th anniversary trip for my wife and I in under two weeks to departure. Actually it will one year ago exactly this Thursday!

I hope you're successful, and I think it's very generous of you to include your aunt and uncle!

Why are you even considering giving up your points for next year??? I guess I would do that for my Mom and Dad, but not for anyone else. No way, can't they find a nearby hotel or one onsite? I don't understand why you must sacrifice that?

My thoughts exactly!

You are obviously a very giving & generous person - I guess I'm not because I wouldn't even consider this.

Why should you have to accommodate them on a your vacation? They are the ones that have decided they want to join you at the last minute. I would tell them (or have your parents tell them) that they are welcome to stay at the BCV & then give them the # for CRO to see if they can get a cash ressie!!! If they can't get one there the YC, BC & even the BW are very close! :p

Yeah, I definitely agree totally about it being last minute and having to include them. I didn't mind doing it this once though. There's a couple of reasons that I offered. The main reason is that if they couldn't afford to go, then I didn't want my parents to cancel out. The main reason that I bought was so that my parents would come with us on vacations. My dad's idea of a vacation is bbq'ing in the back yard and just being with the family. They just don't take vacations and they really do deserve it. I didn't want my aunt and uncle's actions to affect what I wanted to give my parents. The last thing I want to do is have my uncle and aunt being on vacation with us, and trust me, it's going to be hard for me to hide it, but for my parent's I'll suck it up. I've been trying to look at the bright sides of this and another part is that my cousin is going to be there too. My daughter and my cousin (aunt and uncle's son) are the same age, and she's excited. I'm with you guys though, I didn't really want to have them come with us. I'm just going to make sure that my parent's don't try to pay for everything to make up for aunt and uncle being there. It's dh and I's 12th anniversary, my parent's 31st anniversary, and my brother's 23rd birthday rolled up in that week, so I wasn't about to let them back out. I'm trying to keep positive thoughts about it though. It's working because I got an OKW studio for that period and waitlisted for bwv and bcv.

Just wanted to wish you good luck - hope the waitlist works some magic for you!

Best wishes -

I just wanted to send some pixie dust. You can pick your friends, but not your family. Suck it up and enjoy, we don't have our parents, aunts and uncles forever.

We had a studio at BC booked over memorial day when my sister and her boyfriend decided to come down to Orlando for the weekend. I just did a little research on available discounts at hotels and she ended up booking a room at a great discount (using Entertainment book) at the Swan, and it was close walking distance. I was not going to drain the remainder of our points just to get them a DVC room - I see no reason to subsidize everyone's vacation just because we own DVC. If you invite someone to come down with you, obviously that could be a different story. Your relatives could undoubtedly get a very cheap Downtown Disney hotel on hotwire or priceline, too. I think you will regret it if you drain your next year's points for them....
