Family Reunion Spots other than Disney World--Not a Cruise

Where else do you meet up with extended family members? We are scattered throughout USA. We have done Disney, Nashville, Baltimore Inner Harbor, and Sanibel. There are no babies, but children ages 7 thru teens.

Many do not want to do a cruise, so that is out. Camping is out for more than half the group too.

I have no interest in renting a house with everyone, so individual hotel rooms or suites with kitchens would be great. We like to hang out and gather at night, and sometimes do our own thing by day.

What is your favorite large group destination? There are 16 of us.

Well, I just got back from San Diego (my 4th or 5th trip) and I *LOVE* it there.

Myrtle Beach is fun virtually year-round. You can rent condos in the same resort--tons to do, on the beach or otherwise. Lots of golfing, and an airport for those flying in. Most resorts (there are tons!) have lazy rivers and other water features, in addition to the ocean right there. Choice of restaurants if you (or some people in your group) don't want to cook. Our favorite activities are Wonderworks (at Broadway at the Beach--mostly shopping, but some other stuff there) and escape rooms. Less nerdy families might choose banana boating, helicopter rides, Ripley's Believe It or Not--the list goes on and on.

I was thinking Santa Barbara as well. We’ve done it without a rental car and find it relatively walkable. I even made my husband walk from our hotel to the zoo — about two miles, pre knee replacement, stopping about every hundred feet to rest.

We stayed in Solvang for a few days and drove over to Santa Barbara for the day one year, it's only 30 miles away. The next year we did a cruise that stopped in Santa Barbara, and walked the main drag, had a nice lunch, did wine tasting right there. That trip was nice since I don't like to wine taste and then have to drive. We didn't eat there, but this was just before the last Sambos in the world closed. It was right on the main drag of Santa Barbara.
