This is somewhat budget related, because I'll probably need to buy us some new clothes. I have Kohl's Cash to use up, so I'm looking for something on their website right now.

I want to get some family photos done of me, DH, my adult DS (age 21), and baby DD (age 6 months). I'm trying to think of a way to coordinate, but of course I don't want my DH and DS to match exactly. Even though these are going to be taken to send out in Christmas cards, I really don't want our clothes to look "Christmasy". I'm thinking we'll either wear jeans or khakis, but I can't figure out what type of shirts to wear that coordinate but don't look cheesy.

Suggestions anyone?

Google photography websites and mimic a look you like.

Your photographer should have some suggestions. I would suggest everyone wearing white shirts with either jeans or khakis. The guys could wear white oxford, while you could wear a white blouse, and the baby girl could dress all in white, perhaps a cute white dress. And, I do like the photographs of white shirts with khakis best. I like the look of everyone in the same color coordination. That would give a classic look at a reasonable cost. I've also seen where every one wears a polo shirt of the same color.

Smile away, Karen

Thanks for the replies. :) I really debated about colors, because me and DS are very pale...a lot of colors wash us out. We all look good in black though, so that's what I picked.

I got a semi-frilly black 3/4 sleeve top for myself. DH is going to wear a black button-up oxford style shirt. DS is going to wear a black long-sleeve polo style shirt. We're all going to wear blue jeans.

I'm still debating on what to have the baby wear. She has a cute little black top and jeans, but I'm worried that since she's so little she'll just disappear into the picture since the rest of us are wearing black too. She has a red dress with black polka-dots, which I may choose instead.

I was hoping to get the pics done this weekend, but the baby bumped her head yesterday evening while rolling on the floor and has a small bruise right beside her eye now. :sad1: So, hopefully next weekend everyone will be healthy and bruise free. <crossing fingers>

mickey ears, of course:confused3

Don't wear prints, only solids. When we do a family portrait we dress in the same type of colors, either all dark or all light (depending on time of year) that coordinate with eachother. We did one one year where everyone wore white tops and jeans and we look like we are in a cult, since then I have avoided wearing all the same color. You don't want to end up on awkwardfamilyphotos .com :rotfl:

We just got ours done!!! Our Photogragher just put them up on her site.

Scroll down just a little bit. We are the Skittle-ish family.
I had gone through all of our clothes 10 times trying to pick something! I think these colors all coordinated well!!

Those look very nice, I love the close-ups of your boys.

Don't wear all Black our expensive professional pictures came out way too dark!! And of course they were taken in a dark studio.

Hi:
I'm on a ton of photography boards. I dream of being a photographer. LOL.

I would put one person in a pattern and then draw coordinating colors out of the pattern for everyone else. I see a lot of little girls having the pattern in their dress and the rest of the family coordinates in a solid.

I would avoid all black or all white.

I totally ageee. We just had our family pic taken and this is what we did. I LOVE our new pics - best ones we've ever taken. The one person in a pattern was actually my 12 year old son. He wore a brown sweater with an orange/dark brown/cream argyle print and the rest of us were in solids of those colors. Wish I knew how to post a pic!!!:goodvibes

I think before you finalize what you are wearing you should consider the backround and where you are having them taken.

My family picture I had taken last year - DH and DS wore jeans, navy blue sweaters and a white oxford underneath - a little white makes the face brighter. My DD and I wore Eggplant colored sweaters with white shirts and jeans.

I have done all white and Khaki, we were on the beach.

Most of all think of how you live. I know that seems funny, but my Mom had a family portrait done when I graduated college. All dressed up and it is funny to look at because we aren't dress up people.

Also, consider making an appointment - many photography places, even Sears, Walmart and Picture People are very busy this time of the year. Go early or after nap so the baby can be at her best!

Something that fits your family. We had portraits done last year with all of us in our jeans and Carolina Panthers shirts. It is so "us" and I absolutely love the pictures. We had a really hard time picking which ones to buy.

We have pics from DD6's first Christmas - my hubby was in a black shirt, and was holding her...she was in a black velvet dress. FANTASTIC pic, except my hubby looks like he has a head floating on his shirt:)
