We are a family of five (2 Ad and 3 C aged 13, 10 and 6) from New Zealand who are planning our trip of a lifetime to Orlando next October. I'm hoping that we can afford to stay for our first 7 nights at Disney's Port Orleans Resort while we visit the Disney parks. However, in the second week, we will do Universal, Islands of Adventure and Sea World so I'd like to move to another hotel offsite for the second 7 nights. We will also get a rental car for that second week.
Since we will have been squeezed into one small room at POR for the first week, I'm keen to stay somewhere where we can get a Two-Bedroom type room (or at least a One-Bedroom with two T.V.s) for the second week so that we can spread out and enjoy a bit of space. It makes sense to be located closer to Universal and Sea World than Disney but I don't know where to begin!
There seems to be so many choices!! I quite like the idea of the ones that have the free breakfast included because that would be a saving but, if not, no worries, it would also be okay to have a room with basic self-catering facilities so that we could go to the supermarket for supplies and make breakfasts in our room.
I think I have also read that the area near Universal is not so nice - is that true? We'd definitely need a nice, safe, family-friendly area. It would be quite good to be located within easy reach of fast food places too because, while in the U.S., we plan to have a few visits to Taco Bell etc
Any advise will be much appreciated
