Family-of-five - where should we stay after a week at Disney?

We are a family of five (2 Ad and 3 C aged 13, 10 and 6) from New Zealand who are planning our trip of a lifetime to Orlando next October. I'm hoping that we can afford to stay for our first 7 nights at Disney's Port Orleans Resort while we visit the Disney parks. However, in the second week, we will do Universal, Islands of Adventure and Sea World so I'd like to move to another hotel offsite for the second 7 nights. We will also get a rental car for that second week.

Since we will have been squeezed into one small room at POR for the first week, I'm keen to stay somewhere where we can get a Two-Bedroom type room (or at least a One-Bedroom with two T.V.s) for the second week so that we can spread out and enjoy a bit of space. It makes sense to be located closer to Universal and Sea World than Disney but I don't know where to begin! :confused3 There seems to be so many choices!! I quite like the idea of the ones that have the free breakfast included because that would be a saving but, if not, no worries, it would also be okay to have a room with basic self-catering facilities so that we could go to the supermarket for supplies and make breakfasts in our room.

I think I have also read that the area near Universal is not so nice - is that true? We'd definitely need a nice, safe, family-friendly area. It would be quite good to be located within easy reach of fast food places too because, while in the U.S., we plan to have a few visits to Taco Bell etc

Any advise will be much appreciated :thumbsup2

I've heard great things about the Double Tree across the street fom Universal. There is also timeshare condos and houses to rent by the week. The only one I can help you with is this.Hope this helps. Here is the website:

You can stay in any of the kids suites at UO; they have two bedrooms and two TVs and you'd get express passes at the Universal parks. You might want to also look at SpringHill Suites (and their next-door sister FairField Hotel and Suites). Both are by Marriott, right around the corner from SeaWorld, are reasonable priced, and provide free breakfast.

I'm sure others will know of some nice, reasonably priced condos that would be great too. I don't think you'd get breakfast at those, but with a car and kitchen, you'd be all set in that area.

Best of luck!

Yes, the Doubletree Orlando looks lovely! It seems though that we'd all be in one room and I'm hoping for a One or Two bedroom type accommodation for this second week of our holiday. Many thanks for your help though :)

As much as the Kids Suites look amazing, they are too pricey for us unfortunately :sad1: However the Springhill or Fairfield Suites might definitely be an option and I'll look into them. We will have a car that second week so gives us more flexibility as to where we stay :thumbsup2 Many thanks for your help!
