Sorry if this has been covered, but what is the best option for a family of 6, 2 adults, 4 kids (combined family).. I have been with my own 2 children, so this is new for us! Would like to stay onsite so we dont have to rent a car. We are also looking to travel next April (week of 9th)..

Thank you!

The cheapest option for our family of 6 with no room discounts was 2 rooms at one of the values. Now a few years ago we got a good room discount & the ft wilderness cabins ended up being the better deal.

We're a family of 6 and we stay off-site. I can rent a 5 bedroom, 3 bath, private pool home and a mini-van for less than the cost of 2 value rooms on-site.

We love having all the room to spread out, a full kitchen, private pool, game room and washer/dryer.

I also have a family of 6. It has always been cheaper for me to stay at one of the values with 2 rooms. I've looked at staying off site, but when you factor in the rental car, parking and travel, 2 rooms at the value is the way to go.

Depending on what kind of bed arrangement you need, check out the Family Suites at All-Star Music. One queen in a bedroom with a door, a full-size pullout couch, a twin-size pullout chair, and a "junior" size foldout ottoman. With two bathrooms and a kitchenette.

For our family it works better to have three beds in one room for the 4 kids and one larger bed in the bedroom for DH and I rather than 2 doubles in each room.

We are a family of 6 and this is our 1st trip so I wanted to stay on Disney property and get the dining plan =) We are staying in the family suite at Pop Music. We booked through a travel agent that really helped us with planning =) Good Luck

You can book 2 rooms at a Value or Moderate and request they be connecting. Disney cannot guarantee you a connecting room by law (they have to keep all connecting rooms for 1 parent-4 kid families), but the cast member told me he's never seen a request denied at check-in because of that reason.

One positive of staying onsite is that you get the full "submerged" feeling where the outside world doesn't exist.

We are going this Christmas and went with 2 rooms at Pop Century because it was cheaper and they don't share transportation with the other value resorts. All of the All Star resorts share transportation. We have always rented a car and this is our first trip using the Disney transportation, so that was important to us. Just depends on what you really want, but those are the reasons I chose Pop Century. :) It is also the newest of the value resorts if that matters. HTH!

Not for long ....

"Should everything go as expected, the resort will open in the summer of 2012 ...

In total, there will be 1,980 rooms. 1,120 of them will be family suites capable of housing up to six people, featuring living rooms and bedrooms. The remaining 864 will sport the standard value layout."

you should also look into renting points for a DVC room. A 2 bedroom will give you lots of room to spread out and relax for about the same price as getting two rooms at another resort.

If you are interested in the family suite at ASM you better book ASAP. April 8 is Easter and things will fill up fast if they aren't already.

Thanks everyone..I will look into renting points for the week and get a 2 bedroom possibly.. How does one even go about that? I love the idea of the suites at the value resorts, but the kids are 14-girl, two 10-year-old boys and a 7-year-old boy and I dont think my daughter will want to share the living room with 3 rambunctious little ones!!

Also, historically, are there any "deals" during that timeframe generally? I have gone twice in August recently and got the dining plan, but I know if I rent points then I wouldnt have the option of the free dining plan, correct?

Just trying (and need to be!) budget-minded to pull this off and would like everyone to be comfortable..

Thanks again!

Renting points means no free dining plan, correct. Start the renting process by reading the Primer on the Rent/Trade DVC disboard. I highly recommend doing that. I stayed 8 nights at the BWV in January for $860 ($108 per night). Renting DVC points is the way to go ... (almost) all the benefit with none of the timeshare obligation that financial planners hate. I understand some DVC owners don't consider it an obligation, but that's another thread.

If you plan your trip 11+ months out, you can be successful getting what you want most of the time, especially if you are an experienced renter and have built up a "Rolodex" of DVC owners who rent points for $10 or less per point and own at different resorts. If you plan your trip 7+ months out, your odds are still good getting what you want or at least close to what you want, depending on the time of year you are looking. If you are already within 7 months, you may need some pixie dust.
