OK after thinking about the trip we would like to take in early December with our whole family to WDW, I decided to look into all the different resorts. We own at VGC so we could only try and get a room 7 months out and I really hate to split up because then it doesn't seem like a vacation. The grand villa is our only option with 8 kids and mom and dad.

I see the points at OKW are so much less and wondered if I should look into buying resale so I could try and book at GV. I read alot on here about OKW and it seems like everyone really likes it.

What do you think??? We've never been to WDW and are from Seattle.

You could always see about getting OKW points transferred from another member and try out the resort before you go. That way you can see what you think of the resort before you go and have the 11 mo booking advantage.

We spent 5 nights in a Grand Villa at Saratoga Springs about 18 months ago, and LOVED it. We will be in an Old Key West Grand Villa for 1 night this Saturday, than transferring to Bay Lake Tower for 6 nights in a Grand Villa there. We can't wait to experience 2 more resorts. We own our points at Bay Lake.

We love the OKW GVs, but if you are thinking of the first week of December THIS YEAR, time will be important, and I would NOT expect any availability at the 7 month mark for the first week of December. I've already completed my reservation for the first two weeks!

Your quickest solution would be to rent or trade points with an OKW owner who can make that reservation for you. Likely the best option is for you to make a reservation for them at your resort, and them to make a reservation for you at OKW.

How do you go about doing this???

You would need to find someone on the rent trade board who has OKW points in the numbers you will need. Then in communication with them, you could offer to make a reservation for them in exchange for your reservation.

Check with the rent trade board rules and see if you can post what you want on your own first. I'm pretty sure you can post that you want an OKW owner to book a GV at OKW for you in trade for you booking something for them at your home resort.

Would it be better to rent them and save my points for VGC for next year since it takes more points?? We only have 260pts right now, we had only planned on doing Disney every few years but our kids loved it and so did I. I loved seeing their smiling faces and can't wait to go back. I'm taking two of the boys in March for 6 days so I can experience WDW before we take the whole family.

Or should I just wait and take my chances with what I can get at the 7 month mark?? I really didn't want to split up though, that's my only hitch I think.

Knowing how busy early December is, I think that renting the points from someone who owns OKW would be your best bet if you are okay with spending the money for this trip.

THe akv grand villas are awesome and not too many more points. They also tend to be more available at the seven month mark.

Just as a potential ieda (also looking at WDW w a large party while owning on the west coast-but we're okay w multiple rooms since were 4 couples and 3 kids), have you looked at the point cost of SSRs Treehouse Villas? They also sleep 12 though are apparently far from everything. But I keep drooling over the (comparatively) low point cost of them vs GVs and they seem to have larger quantities. I want to add on a small contract at the World too for HR priority every 3rd or 4th year but want to see the properties before I make that choice.

THV only sleep 9, not 12 . You might be able to get 10 in if your youngest is 2 and under. They are hard to get at the 7 mo window though, especially when you are tailing about going. Good luck.:goodvibes
