I'm hoping someone here can help...

My husband and I own DVC. My parents live with us. According to DVCs webpage my parents would qualify for the immediate family ones that I can buy.

My question is about redeeming the vouchers. My husband and I are going to WDW the beginning of November but my parents are not going until after we come home (so we will not be there at the same time). I know that I can buy the vouchers ahead of time from member services but how do my parents redeem them if you need to show dvc card? Can I show ahead of time and they note the account?

I've contacted member services several times and each time I get a different answer - but they all say it's possible. The most recent answer I got was that I actually turn the vouchers in when I'm down there and just don't use the passes so that when they go a few weeks later it will use their fingerprint. The rep said the 365 day countdown doesn't start until they swipe through turnstile but I'm reading a lot of places that the countdown starts the day you exchange the voucher.

Has anyone done this before or have any suggestions? I plan on calling member services again and see if I can get at least two people to tell me the same answer but I'm not too confident!!

I ran into a situation like yours before about 5 years ago so it could be different by now. I travel solo a lot and my parents are the contract holders for our points. What we did was call member services and pre-purchased the voucher through them. The MS rep made a notation on the confirmation that I lived in the same household but would be without the actual card holders when in the world itself. All that I needed to do was provide my photo id proving that my address was the same as there's when I went to pick my pass up. I was nervous the day I went to pick up my pass that something would go wrong, but it was a smooth and seamless transaction thanks to the notes that MS had put in when the voucher was purchased.

I can't answer the whole thing - but one part you were told is wrong. When you exchange a voucher for an AP, the start date will be the date of the exchange, running for 1 year. There is no "starts when you use it" type thing for APs like there would be for a regular MYW ticket. When you exchange a voucher, the AP would start that day. They print the expiration date on the AP right there at the ticket window.

I just gave my BIL a copy of my card and he showed his DL with our address.

Thanks everyone for the responses! :goodvibes

I called member services a few more times.. the last time (yesterday) I spoke to someone who seemed pretty knowledgeable. He spoke with his manager and what they said is that normally you need to show the DVC card but because of the situation (with going different times), that I can buy the passes now and that he would give me a reference number and a confirmation number. My parents would then take both of those numbers, a copy of my DVC card and their IDs showing the same address to will-call at the parks and there "should" be no problem. I figured that was the best answer I've gotten so far, so we purchased the tickets over the phone and made note of the reference number and confirmation number..

Here's hoping that it all works out well for my parents... :thumbsup2
