Family member not using FP

This is sort of a random question. I am traveling to Disney with my family and the grandparents are coming along. My dad keeps saying that he might just hang out by the pool on one or two of the days instead of joining us in the parks. If he doesn't use his FP's that I painstakingly booked for him, will the rest of the members of the family still be able to book 4th FP's after using our first 3? Or will his have to be used as well before we can book anything additional?
