Was just reading in the latest issue of FamilyFun that the DCL is now offering Kite making to families the day before Castaway Cay. On Castaway Cay day, you can take your kite and fly it around the island and then bring it home after the cruise. Has anyone done this yet? Also I was wondering what kind of quality the kites are? I wonder if you could get character signatures on the kite or even the captain's signature. :cool1: :cool1:

Wow! This sounds like a lot of fun..would love to hear if they really are! :earsboy:

We did it in January on the Wonder! Watch your Navigator....seems like we did it the evening before CC at 4pm?? But then we got in trouble on CC for not taking them far enough down the beach to fly them! I think you have to go near the teen beach for kites???

It was on our recent Eastern. We did not participate so I can't tell you exactly when, but there was a time on the day at sea before Castaway Cay to make the kites and a time and place set in the Castaway Cay Navigator to fly them.

Yeah! Thanks for the information. We don't sail for quite some time. Hopefully they will still be doing this. We are doing the Eastern also! :cool1:

We did this on the Jan. 22 Magic. It was at around 8:00am in AP the morning before CC. There were 2 or 3 CMs handing out white plastic kites. THe tables had markers on them and the kids (or adults) could draw and decorate the kites. There were about 20 people participating. It was fun....but not all that terribly exciting.

We did not actually "make" the kites.....just decorated them.

We just got back and did the kite making. It was the day before Castaway Cay---about 9:30 a.m. in AP. You don't make, but rather decorate the plain white kite. They had makers for people to share. You can do as little or as much as you want.
We actually did fly them on the island--near the aqua trikes. My 7 yr old DS had a ball. The kites were not the best quality, but they work! We decided not to bring them home---too much to pack.
