Family is mad that I don't want a 40th Birthday party

A friend's wife turned 50 two years ago. He threw her a surprise party since he knew she would love it. Everytime he emailed me about the party his closing words were always "WHEN I TURN 50 I DON"T WANT A SURPRISE PARTY" He turns 50 this year. I haven't heard anything yet but his wife may not be talking to us about it since she know how we feel.

When I turned 50 my dh and this couple went to Cape May for a weekend.

Let's see....quiet evening at home with new IPad, vs. loud party with everyone teasing you about being old, and getting every black wrapped gag gift out there, wishing you were home watching TV-and NO IPad.

I think the choice is obvious.

You put that perfectly!

I personally chose Disneyland for my day last year. It was perfect! I'm already feeling younger than I have since I turned 30 (and my mom died just months later) so I needed to go to Disney to make myself even happier!

If you don't want a party they can't make you have one. That's one of the benefits of turning 40;)

So true. :goodvibes
