I must admit, I have tired so many diets, so many times and I can understand my family (not my Hubby and DD) not getting as excited about it as I am. What I can't understand is the reaction they had yesterday. :( My DD shared with them the fact that "Mommy's on a Diet" and the reaction was "again?? ' or no reaction at all. A bit like, 'oh sure, we'll believe it when we see it' attitude.

I admit, I was down about it yesterday. I actually thought, maybe they are right. Maybe I should just be happy with who I am because I'm going to fail anyway. It was a difficult evening but I didn't go off Atkins.

WELL! STOP THE SELF-PITY BUS, I WANT OFF!!

There is NO WAY I'm going to fail now. I am going to show them that this time is for real.

My three NEW goals:

1. Lose a total of 25 pounds by May 23rd (Family Camping Trip)
2. Lose a total of 35 pounds by July 4th (Family Picnic)
3. Lose a total of 45 pounds by August 2nd (Family vacation in Yellowstone)

I'll show them!! I love them dearly, but they are not right, this time.

I like your attitude, Kels! Good for you! I have not one doubt that you will reach these goals maybe even ahead of schedule.

I'm really proud of you for taking a negative situation and turning it into a positive thing. You can do this, I know you can. And won't those people who love you be surprised? They will be suprised and they will be so proud of you.

Okay, don't forget to add some exercise everyday. That will definitely help with your goals. You are so lucky to live in Colorado such pretty scenery for walks outside :)

{{{HUGS}}} my friend. Hang in there and know that we believe in you and we know you can do this :)

Hey Kelsie!
Good for you. Nothing like the Ole I'll Show You Diet!:p

Failure? Not an option. BTW, I would never call any positive attempt a failure. You just haven't gotten there yet. Any step in the right direction is a step AWAY from failure! Keep it up! Together, we will do it!

Keep the Faith!
Tracy

So sorry to hear your family isn't being very supportive. But know you can come here and we can help you stay motivated and offer you support:D

You have set realistic goals for yourself and we have faith that you will achieve them.:Pinkbounc

{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}} for you. We know you can do it. :D

Families are wonderful aren't they?

Nobody has said anything to me in a long time (I think they think I am a lost cause) but some of their comments in the past have stuck with me and are partly to blame for my lower self-esteem. I will never forget the Christmas that one of my grandmothers brought it upon herself to give me a copy of a diet that she had cut out of the newspaper in front of the entire extended family. Oh by the way did I mention that I was just 14 when that happened? Or when my Dad would make comments about how big I was while I was in high school?

I am glad that you are more motivated but don't use just showing your family up the main reason for losing weight. You have to do this for yourself - not for them. Having them eat crow is just a delicious side dish to your success! :teeth:

I know for me, part of the problem would be letting people know that I'm on a diet/trying to lose weight. As soon as you say that, people will do one or more of the following --

- Ask how much you've lost and how fast you've lost it
- Ask what you're "allowed" to eat and what you're not
- Watch everything you put in your mouth
- Want to know everything about your "diet"
- Are constantly staring at you when they think you don't know it
- Will put down your efforts because they are jealous or don't want you to lose (for one reason or another)
- Are afraid to invite you over to their house for fear of serving something "you can't have"
- Bring out something you would like to stay away from, and say "Oh, I'm sorry, you probably can't have this"
- Tell you a story of someone they know who lost weight, but they couldn't keep it off

I find it's better to NOT let the world know you are on any kind of weight loss program. Do your best to eat what you are supposed to; say "no thank you" to anything you don't want to eat; don't feel you have to explain everything you put into your mouth, etc.

It becomes the subject of the whole day/evening and becomes a burden for you. I find the best thing is to keep it to yourself and surprise everyone with your new look. If someone finally asks if you've lost weight, proudly say yes. If they ask how, tell them you just changed your eating habits and are eating healthier.

I have diabetes, but I don't find that I need to explain that everytime someone gives/offers me candy or sweets. I just say "no thanks" or accept it and give or throw it away later. As soon as I would say, oh no thanks, I can't have that, it turns into a big discussion and you'll hear all kinds of stories of people they know who have diabetes, etc.

The bottom line is you do it for YOU and no one else. So, if you're not doing for anyone else, then what reason do you have to explain?

Well, Kelsie, I guess they just don't know you as well as we do!:teeth:

We know that you are a CRITICAL part of our WISH family. We know that we are all working together. We know that we're in this for the long haul, not just on a short-lived whim. We know that you help us and we help you, and we'll all be healthier and more gorgeous soon!

And they apparently don't know about the magical powers of the clippies!:p

Believe me, I've been on on this 'live-it' for 3 weeks now (WW-1 week, Atkins-2 weeks), so I am not doing it for them. I am doing it for myself and my DD. :)

The family issue just gives me a little more motivation and face it, any additional motivation we can get, is a good thing. :) My original goal was 45 pounds by August, now I have a couple of additional goals in-between.

I can't tell you how much WISHers support has helped me to get this far. You are all the best!! :)

Sometimes I don't understand why families say things to other family members that they would never say to strangers.

You go girl and show them what self-motivation is!!!

Kelsie,
You CAN do it! And you WILL!!! Those naysayers just don't know about WISH and what fun we have here! We aren't just dieting, we are changing our lives and getting healthier. I guess they don't know how cool it is to be a Loser! :p
