Familiar with "meat plans"?

Well, I really didn't know what to call it, but our newspaper keeps advertising a new store that's opened where you join a "meat plan", "meat club" or what- the- heck- ever you want to call it, and are able to save bunches of money. There are actually several plans, according to family size, meat preferences etc. There are contracts to sign and monthly payments. Years ago I heard about this type offer and it was always a horrible rip off. Anybody here ever joined one and actually gotten quality meat at good prices? I'm very skeptical.
