Hi. I was wondering where everyone gets their fall bulbs? I've been buying daffodils and tulips just wherever. Like the supermarket and Home Depot over the last few years. But sometimes they haven't been coming back. Has anyone ever mailordered any bulbs? And were you happy with the results? and the Price?

I also want to plant Globe Alliums. Is that the right name? The really tall, round purple ball flowers? I saw them on Rebecca's Garden on HGTV and thought they would be cool.

Thanks for your suggestions or advice.

Thanks, I just found their website last night and requested a catalog. I'll probably pore over and over it til I can finally make a decision!

Tulips never come back for me, so I would rather invest in daffodils. Some do well and some don't.

My never fail variety is Ice Follies, so I usually plant something fun and some Ice Follies just in case. As a result, I have many Ice Follies.

Salome does good for me too and it is a late blomer here, which is nice after all the others are blown. Sometimes the early and midseason come so early that ice will wack them into nothing.

Do you have a favorite "no fail" variety?

I have 4 different varieties of globe alliums, Purple Sensation is my favorite. Stops traffic every year. I try to add one or two varieties of bulbs every fall.
Tulips tend to peter out after a few years for me, although I have very good luck with all the red varieties, esp. the species tulips (very short, more open in habit, earlier than most). I keep planting more of them every year, though, because I love the black (Queen of Night) and Apricot Beauty together.
As for daffs, many people get them dug up by various critters. Some will plant them in chickenwire cages, which keeps them from getting dug up. Me, I'm too lazy. Still, they've left my Poeticus (pheasant-eye type) daffs alone, and they increase every year so I have very large clumps of them in my garden.
