Hi

Just saw the thread on pass for the wonder for the arcade. I have replied to it but when I looked further I saw that there was also a thread from the same person about free pass for fast track. I think its to good to be true that some one would give a arcade card worht 20 dollars for free. So can anyone tell me what this is about.

Because of our love of DCL, lots of us "give" of our time and knowledge to help others who also love DCL or are trying to learn more about DCL.

And then there are others who sometimes have material things to "give". It was amazing the number of "free" gifts we received on our last cruise, and the only thing we did was participate here on the DIS boards and added our name to a list a DIS member was keeping of those going on the May Repo.

In this case F6Fun has some material things that they can't use, but would make them feel good if they can help someone else use them. The only nefarious thing that COULD happen is this stranger getting your address, in which case you could always provide a business address or P.O. Box (if you have it).

What would raise my eye-brows and make me worry about fraud is if they had a $20 card and were looking to sell it for $10.

hi,

well I hope your right I live in the Netherlands and here people don't give these things for free you can get them for a nice price but not for free. Hope that you are right and that americans are better persons than europeans but i am not sure.

The quote

If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is

pretty much holds here in the U.S. as it does in other parts of the world. But you have to remember, the people you encounter here in the DIS are not "normal" people. People who spend their time here are fans of Disney and DCL and so that makes us a special bread.

But at the end of the day, you have to look at the motives of others to determine what is and isn't real.

In this case, the "value" of what the "giver" has isn't worth enough to bother trying to spend the time and effort to "sell" what they have. The "giver" doesn't have anything to lose by giving the items to someone. But the "giver" does stand to "gain" by helping someone else who is also a Disney/DCL fan (as they say, it's better to give than recieve). So the last thing to look at is what do YOU have to give the giver to get the item. In this case, it seems like only an address. Of course we're talking about personal information, and ID theives are everywhere. But in this case, this is not someone who already has information on you trying to get that extra piece of info needed to start ripping you off. They are pretty much asking random people for an address. And an address from a random source isn't going to get you anywhere (after all, you can obtain random addresses out of the phone book).

So in this case, since there really isn't anything negative for the "receiver", there's nothing MATERIAL to be gained or lost by the "giver", then is sounds like a legit offer to me. Now if the "giver" starts asking for a credit card number to pay for shipping... then you know this is a worm with a hook in it.

I'd like to second that. DIS people are definately not "normal" people. I know at least one other DIS'r IRL and I must say we get some funny looks when we start talking Disney in person. Here we fit right in though. :)

And if we're a "special bread", can I be Pumperknickel? Sorry, I couldn't resist. :rolleyes1

Ciska - When we got off our of our cruise in December I had 2 or 3 arcade cards the concierge team had given us, but the kids in our party were only 2 and 5 so they weren't really into the arcade. I mailed them out to someone on this board, too - I guess they were about $10 value each. When I was at MK with Fast Passes we weren't going to use, I tried to give them to others, too, so don't assume that people are angling for a con! Sometimes it just MIGHT be someone trying to be nice because they couldn't take advantage of something, and really, it's no skin off someone to mail something to an "almost" total stranger to make their day!

Oh - almost forgot - I got so many PMs that I finally probably ignored one or two of them (bad, I know) to tell them I had already sent them out. So I'm sure some of those people thought I was scamming them!

If we are leaving the park with fastpasses we don't use, we always find a family to give them to. I purposely try and find a family the same size as mine (cause I'll have four fastpasses), but as unlike me as I can. Last time I - wearing my khaki shorts and golf shirt and looking very Country Club - gave mine to what I'm sure was a nice family where the dad had his Harley Davidson t shirt on. I like to challenge my own stereotypes and those of others.
