Just got word tonight, tore is closing for good on December 28th. With the Scarborough Town Centre now closed, it leaves Yorkdale and Downtown, 2 stores for 2 million people. (coorection, Yorkdale is closed too, that leaves only downtown)

Sure, there's Vaughan Mills and Square One, but I live in Scarborough and don't drive. I guess Disney in their wisdom is saying "To hell with Torontonians, we only want people in the 905 area to buy Disney stuff."

They do seem to be closing them all. In fact, the one at Yorkdale has been closed for quite some time now.
That really sucks. I'll have to see about making a trip out there sometime soon.
Thanks!

They must not be doing very well. I would imagine that if the stores were profitable, they would remain.

The last of Ottawa's two stores closed last year. That's 1MM people with no Disney store. Unless we drive to Toronto. I don't think Montreal has one either.

I really think it is the internet that kills it. You can order all of the merch directly from the US online. Or better yet, hit the mecca at DTD!!!

We still have a store in Hamilton... Limeridge Mall.. I dont know what I would do if they closed it... I dont think there is any other ones that is close at all.. :S

I was just at the Limeridge Mall store last week and found very little selection. Of course there is a lot of Tangled and Toy Story 3 merchandise out, I just didn't see a lot of other things. I was looking for stocking stuffers and small, easy to transport items to take for Christmas in FL but found it really limited. In Mississauga, there always seemed to be more of the little items available.

I also was surprised that I couldn't buy a gift card to use at the world. They don't sell them because of the exchange. I don't get that...we're almost at par and I expected there to be a bigger difference for them to profit in doing it, but they don't at all. I used to work retail - and not even a US based store and we still took US $ so I can't see the difference. :confused3

Theres a store in Barrie. I've never been there but my step-father was there trying to get some Christmas shopping done for our DD. He ended up leaving empty handed because of the Canadian/US pricing. The dollar is basically at par and the US prices was still $10-15 dollars cheaper for the item he was looking at. He offered to pay the US price with US funds, but the manager wouldn't go for it.

I had a bad weekend a month or so back. drove from Bowmanville to scarborough, no store, then Yorkdale, no store, had to drive to Vaughan Mills and was extremely disappointed when we got there. the Disney Store, like all of the store in WDW, is generic beyond belief. There wasnt much we wanted to buy.

Look at it this way.... you could be me. I need to travel to either Alberta or WA state for the closest store since they closed the two stores locally that I had been part of the opening Cast for. :(

That is quite the hike.

I think all of these store closings wouldn't be so bad, if the shipping from the Disney Store website to Canada wasn't so expensive.

I agree- I was in the Disney Store recently and was offended at the Canadian price inflation given that the exchange rate was at 99c that day. I left without buying anything because the products were rather cheap, generic, and the Canadian/US price difference offended me.

Hi All,

Square One will be closing as well, around the 28th, as they will be getting re-modelled to the new Imagination Park design. It will be the first of its kind in Canada. There is word of a new Imagination Park store opening in Vancouver again around the same time as the Sq. One store too.

Hope that helps:confused3

The Disney Stores North America is quickly realizing the demand for more disney stores in Canada and will be opening more in the next 5 years.

Square One for me might as well be Florida. I'm at the east end, and only take public transit. Spending 2 plus hours on a bus with three kids just to shop at one store is unacceptable, especially when two stores were closed within 15 minutes of our house.

I like the opinion of demand in Canada, but their actions speak differently. The stores currently carry little more than a Walmart style of products. T-shirts, plush, fairy dresses and pyjamas, and a few kiddie toys. Gone are the days I bought Waterford crystal ornaments, wedding cake toppers, porcelain dolls and any high end limited edition souvenirs. Add to the fact that disneystore.com shipping to Canada is ridiculous, usually more than the product themselves.

Please Disney, let me give you my money. Don't blame us for not spending our money on low end crappy products by closing stores. Torontonians deserve better, and forcing us to travel to Square One isn't the answer. This specialty store should be put in the Eaton Centre, or replacing one of the closed stores.

Well said, but I would change it to CANADIANS deserve better, and would spend oodles of money if the shipping for disneystore.com (and NO UPS, thank you very much!) were reasonable.

I have the same complaint. shipping is ridiculous and the stores we have sell generic garbage. going to 3 malls only to find a lackluster selection of items is disappointing. May be time for a facebook page. Disney please start showing Canadians a bit more love. No Disney Visa, no cheap shipping, out of date pricing at the stores...it's getting ridiculous.

WHAAAAAAAT????????? I better get there fast then.

They're going to keep the Eaton's one open right? I bet that one gets a lot of traffic.

Well, we all knew Disney was planning to close hundreds of stores worldwide, but you never think it's going to be yours. I was devastated when the one at Scarborough town closed.

That was actually the only Toronto Store that didn't get renovated during the period where it was owned by the Children's place. Also I heard some where that in the new year there will be some Canadian stores being renovated like the new ones that have just opened in the US.
