Does anyone else dread this day like I do? Can't wait for it to be over! I've been wearing black all day. It's my way of boycotting. Thanks goodness it didn't fall on a work day and I have to watch everyone else get flowers. I know I'm just a breath of fresh air today. ha ha

Just felt like whining...anyone else want to accompany my misery. ;)

Its tough, but hang in there - after all, it is only one day.

I'll be honest, I don't really have an issue with the people who are gushy and "in love" because it really is sweet and makes you believe that love is real and it is out there just around the next corner.

The people who make me upset are the ones who complain about how hard they have it because their significant other gave them the wrong gift or didn't do what they wanted. Really? Those people should quit their complaining and count their blessings because there are a whole lot of people who don't even have anyone to get them a gift, let alone the wrong gift.

I didn't leave my p.j.'s yesterday. Spent the better part of day moving out of ex's house. What a way to spend Valentines day! Still have one more round of stuff to get and it's on with my life.

I know it's for the best, but still hate it and being Valentines sure doesn't make it any easier.

I think this is why I don't particularly like Valentines Day--it's not inclusive. It's so couples oriented. That leaves out a lot of people who aren't a couple. I guess I liken it to going through Mother's Day when you're not a mother, but you want to be. It's a shame that love of family & friends isn't emphasized.

I'm not newly single but, TBH, I've just kept myself busy enough that I totally forgot it was Valentine's Day til they mentioned it during the pairs figure skating a while ago. One thing that has helped since I remembered is staying away from Facebook, once I found that so many of my friends have posted sappy declarations of love as their statuses. Blech.

Sorry you're having a bad day! At least it's almost over!

And I have to tell you that I laughed when I read your thread title, like "OMG, they have a whole day to celebrate VD now?!" Sorry. I'm immature like that sometimes. ;)

LOL...I kinda did that on purpose because that's exactly what I think of too. So, I guess we're both kind of in the immature boat tonight!

Yeah, I hear that one. That has to be really terrible surving Mother's Day when you really want kids.

My family has always made Valentines day about family, but I've always hated this day, at least anytime I wasn't a "couple" anyway.

Just hits hard sometimes...

:grouphug: Feel better, the right person is out there somewhere! And V-Day is almost over!

what about fathers day? or mothers day? or christmas? those are inclusive to a particular group. :confused3

Thanks! I'd probably feel better if I were 25 instead of 36 though...that age thing is kicking my butt!

:grouphug: SORRY!

36 and never married...can't find Mr. Right to save my life.

I'll tell you what I've been telling myself all day. "Things are exactly the way they're supposed to be for whatever reason...God's plan."

You have a good point. I guess what makes Valentines Day different is the assumption on the part of the relentless advertising that everyone is madly in love in a committed relationship. It makes those who aren't feel "less than." Valentine's is a couples holiday and if you're not part of a couple it kinda sucks.

There are people out there who don't celebrate Christmas but I doubt they feel bad about themselves for it. They just do something else and nobody cares. I can personally attest my hatred of Mother's day--even though I have three kids now, there was a time when I couldn't seem to have *any* and Mother's Day felt like a slap in the face. DH has completely different feelings about Father's Day, however.

Me, too. I'm 37. Bah. I have no idea where the hell the time went!

Count backwards. That's what I do, but now I'm getting too old (Senile...ha ha...kidding) to remember just how old I'll be next year. LOL

Exactly! That's what I always tell myself when things don't go as I'd have liked them to at that point in time, whether it's man-related or not. My last relationship ended over the summer and while I was all but catatonic for about a week and didn't want to do anything but cry and stare at the ceiling, I realize now that it was an enormous blessing that it ended when it did. Now I'm available for someone who's actually RIGHT for me, and so are you. :thumbsup2

I'm single and decided since I don't have a significant other, that I would spend time with my animal 'valentines' at the animal shelter. It made me way happier than a bouquet of flowers would.

Aww, that's a wonderful idea!

Awesome idea!:thumbsup2

Well, were kind of doing the same. I'm spending time with my sick kid. The one in my avatar. SO, it's not all bad.
