Not sure if anyone reading this also read the Jewish Funeral post, but we will be traveling to the Fairfax area tomorrow and staying overnight. This is truly a whirlwind visit for a funeral – no sightseeing, no groceries, and not even a meal needed. We are most likely going to arrive around 6-7pm tomorrow night and will checkout by 10-11am (whenever checkout time is) on Sunday. That said, I’m trying to find a safe, clean hotel but do not need any bells and whistles. I just don’t want to be in an unsafe situation. And obviously by doing so, I’m hoping to save some money.

I’m going to use my lunchbreak to do some digging but I’m racing against the clock – anyone familiar with this area and have any suggestions? Also, it does not have to specifically be in Fairfax - but that's where the services are being held.

Never visited Fairfax, VA but given the circumstances of this stay, I’d just go for the better known hotels/motels : Hilton, Marriot, Hyatt, Howard Johnson, etc.
I’d expect any of them to look exactly the same as the last one you stayed in which gives a certain amt of comfort. After editing down your choices, a quick Yelp search can help you narrow the field further down. HTH.

Have to be honest, I don't think you have a lot to worry about Fairfax is an extremely safe area in general--high income area. I don't think there's any place in the area that would be run down or dangerous. If you're very worried about it.

Just avoid motels...if it were me, and you need Fairfax, stay in Fair Oaks at any of the major chains.

Can you be a bit more specific about the area within Fairfax? It is a very large area and can be quite some distance between one side and the other.

Thanks everyone – with us booking last minute, the rates felt quite high in the area so I was just trying to not break the bank. We ended up staying at the Wingate by Wyndham in Springfield. It was sufficient – clean, right off the interstate, and the beds were seriously the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in. It ended up being convenient for dinner that night as well.

Glad it worked out for you! There are very few areas of Northern VA which are "bad" in terms of overall danger/violent crime (Reston? Maybe?) Although I could be biased because I spent a good part of my 20s living less than a mile from Newark NJ 🤣

Good to hear. I drive past that hotel every day while on the highway. Is the road noise okay (I've wondered).
